This is thing about Dak. If you decide to move away from him, you now have to go into QB search mode and that is a daunting difficult task. We were spoiled with Romo and to a degree Dak but for each one of them there are 10 Quincy Carter's. Anyone remember those days? How about some Chad Hutchinson? That gap between Aikman and Romo was brutal.

So you have to ask yourself can you win with Dak if he has top shelf talent around him? Would a better defense and better play calling on offense or just plain better coaching in general make it work?

He's neither as bad or as good as most folks describe on this board, he's probably square in the middle somewhere.

Like some have said here and elsewhere, we are stuck with #4. Unless somebody has a really good QB in their back pocket we can use for a year or two.

Perhaps they need to consider going back to what worked his rookie season..........

And that's the issue with Dak!

He couldn't get it done with this team, what makes you think he will get it done with a lesser team?

Byron Jones is gone..

Quinn is gone..

And other starters on defense will be gone within the next couple years..

With Dak taking up so much cap, you won't be able to sign top defensive players.

If Dak can't get it done with this defense, what makes you think he will with a bottom feeder defense?

And stop it with the Quincy Carter/ Chad Hutchinson crap..

The reason we didn't find a QB was because jerry kept hoping a scrub/project would pan out instead of just straight up drafting a blue chip QB..

The Eagles liked a QB and went and got him (wentz)

The Chiefs drafted Mahomes despite already having Smith on the roster..

Why can't we do the same?

This team should stop cuddling Dak and draft a QB if one is there in the first 3 rounds

That way, We are not held hostage by Cooper Rush..

The only people who are opposed to this are the people that know The new QB would probably be more talented than Dak

The people of this forum and franchise are so scared of drafting a Manziel or Lynch that it blinds them from the mediocrity that is Dak. It also blinds them from the fact that we could draft a Watson, Mahomes, Jackson, Wilson, Rodgers, etc. What a shame. Settling for mediocrity just like Jason Garrett and Jerry Jones .

Is Dak the greatest, no but I do love the kids try hard attitude. Right team we definitely can win a SB with him. Let’s start with a Championship defense.

To win with Dak, you need an all-time great defense. Not just a “championship” one. He’s an anchor on this team. In order to pull it up, everything AND I MEAN EVERYTHING has to be perfect. Example: 2000 Ravens. Perfect WR’s, RB, O-line, Defense, Coaching, etc.

Romo wasn't a project QB? He was an UFA. Dak was a 4th round pick that nobody saw coming. When is the last time this franchise drafted a blue chip QB not named Aikman?

And furthermore, there is no guarantee that a high pedigree college QB plans out either.

I'm not advocating paying the guy 40 million but this isn't an easy decision by any means.

He's guaranteed $65M over next 2 years from the tag..........Hell, I'd strongly consider this route

Agent's Take: Could Dak Prescott become the next Kirk Cousins? Sizing up the options for Cowboys and QB
Dallas may have to accept the reality of the franchise tag dynamic with its star quarterback

I think the one error with this is the math. If you franchise him for 32.5M this year than he is guaranteed 20% more than that on his second tag in year 2 which would be roughly 39M which means he is guaranteed almost 72M over 2 years on the tag and if I am Dak why would I agree to anything less than 36 million per year knowing that fact. The thing with Wentz extension, and to a lesser extent Goff, was that they got both early enough that they had more leverage because the tag was not imminent.
