So, if you are a salesman and break the record for sales in the long history your company has existed, you would take no pride in that if another company in the same business had a better year than yours did?

Come on, nobody is saying the record means everything, or overrides that the Cowboys had a disappointing season, they are just saying it would have been a nice individual accomplishment for an individual player.

An individual accomplishment based off of failure is not something to be proud of. Just my opinion.

First, do you know what the Cowboys season record was the year Romo set the team passing yardage record? It was 8-8, just like this year. Accordingly, how would Dak be any less deserving of it than Romo?

Second, the individual accomplishment would not be "based on failure". The team failing to reach its goals isn't what caused Dak to throw for the yardage. The yardage just came in a season in which the team failed to reach its goals.

Third, EVERY record involving cumulative stats includes stats accumulated in both successful and unsuccessful games and seasons, so why should it be any different for Dak?

Aside from all that, like Aikman said during the broadcast, the record probably wouldn't mean a lot to Dak right now, but when he is retired, like Aikman, it will mean something for him to be able to look back on. Why would we begrudge that?

It means a helluva lot to Romo. After all, he has zero NFC title game appearances and of course no Super Bowl.

I'm sure this is true. Players look back and enjoy knowing they accomplished things on a personal level. That doesn't somehow mean they are satisfied with not having accomplished team goals, but apparently that's what some fans think.

Prescott does not deserve the record...what a joke. He could not produce much offence against talented teams...he is the king of padding stats against bad teams...
False statement. He threw for 441 yards against the Packers, 393 yards against the Vikings, and 323 yards against the Bills.

A team doesn't lead the NFL in yardage and a QB doesn't average 306 yards per game unless it is consistently getting yardage. That doesn't mean there are games that are exceptions, but games like that are exceptions for any QB and any team.

By the way, do you realize that Romo set the record in an 8-8 season - the same record the Cowboys had this season?

Then why do so many here speak in revered, hush tones when discussing the Romo years? Same stats as Dak. Dak is only one playoff win behind Romo with his whole career ahead of him.
Romo's stats were meaningless too. I've always said so. He was a stats QB.

Not bad for a QB that the idiots on this board told us would never be the passer that Romo was. In Dak's 4th season, he matched Romo's BEST season ever. Given that Romo is apparently a God to some...and that Dak is a terrible QB to these same idiots...that has got to hurt.

Not bad at all.

Oh, and his contract price in fact went up. Should have signed to a Goff/Wentz contract this off season. Now it will cost the Cowboys a cool $30 million plus.
Dak doesn't compare to Romo as far as throwing the ball and reading defenses. That is ludicrous. Dak is a middle of the road Qb. He just doesn't see the field at all. Stats these day are meaningless. Dave Kreig has a better QBR than Staubach for goodness sakes. The eye test! Romo obliterates Dak. Dak is decent enough but not a franchise quarterback. He's not a turnover machine like Winston (who has sick numbers; good and bad), just a better version.
As a long time Cowboy fan I just don't see a high ceiling for him. He's just average; better than most but not great. When he drops back I don't have complete confidence in him making the play.
Romo with Gallup, Coop, and Cobb, would destroy defenses. There's no comparison to me. He's just OK.

Your first point. I addressed that in my previous post regarding this issue. I said that I'll take Romo's 3700 passing yard season with 34 TDs and 9 picks any day over his record breaking season. I as a fan don't care about Romo's records, I care about how well the team does.

Your second point. I disagree completely. I could be wrong. But it's my opinion that both Dak and Romo were in situations that led them to those amount of yards. Either having trouble on the ground or down by too much forcing more passing. Or both. How many times do we see the losing QB have over 300 yards?

I do agree with your 3rd point.

Your 4th. Again, I don't care about his stats for a season. I care about the team. Where he may look back at what could have been or what he accomplished, I don't. I look back at what the team accomplished. Which was the reason for my first post.

I don’t disagree that Romo was the better throwing QB or that he read defenses better. My point was not to say otherwise.

Dak Prescott finished the 2019 season passing for 4,902 yards, just 1 yard shy of tying Tony Romo's 2012 single season franchise passing record of 4,903 yards.

Dak was only allowed to pass 1 more time (a 1 yard sideline dump to Tavon Austin) after 9 minutes left in the 4th quarter. The rest of the offensive plays were strictly running plays. Coincidence? I doubt it. Someone must have known Dak needed 1 more passing yard to tie Romo's 2012 franchise single season passing record, and a mere 2 passing yards shy of Dak breaking it.

It is shameful Dak was only allowed to pass the ball 1 time within the last 9 minutes of the game. He deserved a better opportunity to break the franchise single season passing record. He earned that opportunity this year.

I love it. Motivation to break it next season.

looks like the trolls took another season straight across the nose.

Not sure there have ever been a group of pathetic fans that have ever been proven more wrong more often.

Only good game you listed was the Vikings game. The other games he padded his stats. Packers game was done when we were down 31-3. He threw like 300 yards in the 4Q when the Packers went into prevent and put the game away.

Same situation as the Bills game.

Dak is below average. Why is that so hard to admit? Why are people so attached to Dak? People around here treat him like the Ancient Egyptians treated King Tut back in the ancient times.

Dak could have audibled out of a run

Dak had many passes all year that were thrown behind the receiver.
