Prediction. He will undermine whoever was hired and convince Jerry to give him another shot in 2-3 years. I am sure of this. Guy is a snake.

This.

Remember, this is the guy who actively undermined Wade Phillips, per Jesse Holley. Stephen wouldn't make this move. We need Jerry to move on.

Sounds like the sports writers see it as we do. Prepare for Jason being here until the 14th.

A separate source confirmed to me prior to the conclusion of the season that Jones could find a role for Garrett in the front office, which would open the door for a needed successor at head coach while not allowing another NFL team to benefit from the aforementioned investment he's put into Garrett. There's obvious interest between Garrett and a team like the New York Giants, as one example, and owner Jim Mara and general manager Dave Gettleman have already begun lining up interviews for their vacancy at head coach.

It'd be disingenuous to pretend Jones is oblivious to that possible marriage, because he isn't, at all. It's a scenario he'd prefer to not see materialize, yes, but this isn't to say he's holding up the train in a way that harms Garrett's chances of finding gainful employment. It simply furthers the point that the Cowboys could simply be working to carve out a seat for him in Dallas that doesn't involve Garrett being on the sideline anymore.

That could be maneuvered in a myriad of ways, so while Garrett (nor anyone in Jones' lifetime) will likely be not named general manager, granting him a chair as a consultant/advisor with power to help shape football operations is not out of the question. Furthermore, the topic has likely been broached between the two sides, although a clean cut is still the expectation.

Garrett has said his goodbyes to many within the building in Frisco, and jotted down the numbers of some to remain in touch going forward. A large chunk of his coaching staff is no longer under contract either, and even passing game coordinator Kris Richard -- the most notable free agent -- is slated to interview with the Giants. All things considered, it's never been more clear that this is the time for the Cowboys to move on from Garrett as head coach, and there's nothing right now that indicates they won't, unforeseen miracles aside.

What happens after that, in one way or the other, is what they're still talking about.

It never ceases to amaze me all the people that jump on some speculation by some sportswriter as facts and something waiting to happen. Also some of his statements like Garrett as a backup QB sat in on coaches meeting, and he knows this how? Sportswriter say all sorts of stuff just to get clicks which helps their pay. Not once in this article did this sportswriter ever quote a single person in the Cowboys. We've all been around long enough to know that articles with no name sources is nothing more than that sportswriter's speculation.

My hunch is Jerry will let his contract expire without a fanfare. Jason will probably accept another offer and we’ll move on looking for a HC.

I hate posts like this. You dont have a clue how JG would be in regards to a new coach.
I am fine with JG lending a hand, especially if he is friendly with the new coach and helps the new coaches agenda. He may be the perfect filter to Jerry. Optimistic view.

This all has to be pretty awkward for the Cowboy's current Director of Pro Scouting, Judd Garrett.

There used to be three Garrett brothers on the Cowboy payroll and Judd is about to be the line survivor.....or will he?

What’s wrong with letting him go to the Giants? I’m fine with the Giants going 8-8 the next 10 seasons.

the next head coach will be a guy like garrett a first time head coach so the jones family can mold him into there image and do what they say with no resistance.

Never heard of this writer. Not sure what cred to grant him. Especially skeptical because, of those Cowboys beat media members who over many years have proven to have sources by virtue of having been accurate in breaking a story, none have been unable to get anyone on the inside to crack so far, and gain a real clue.

Has next HC requested Garrett stay on board? See this is the problem and its already taking shape.

None of the great teams are run like this. No wonder we haven't sniffed the SB in a quarter century. All you have to do is look at the Patriots, Steelers, Ravens, etc. to see how to do it right. Pittsburgh has had three HCs in the last 50 years. The Pats have had B.B. for 20+, & the Ravens have had two in 25. Fire the guy now, then take your time & get it right. Of course, those teams actually have a functional F.O.

I remember when there was talk about Jerry bringing Dan Reeves into a role in the front office several years ago and Garrett had a fit and it didn't happen.

But now Garrett is wanting a front office position where he'd hang over the new HC.

Just ****....
