Jimmy Johnson deserves the amount of respect Jason Garrett is getting from Jerry Jones

Johnson- Maximized talent and arguably gave the boys its best run in franchise history

Garrett-Misused, mismanaged talent and wasted an entire decade with rosters that were arguably just as good the 90s

I know today is supposed to be an emotional day for the Joneses but it’s a microcosm of what’s wrong with the Dallas Cowboys
You do realize that Jimmy was very nasty towards Jerry right?

So true .. people forget even what Jimmy himself admitted about how he acted and treated Jerry .. his boss .. the owner back towards the end .. as well Jimmy has said several times he knew he was done in Dallas.. he didn’t like staying anywhere too long .. yes Jerry fired him per say but Jimmy did poop on his desk and pee in his coffee to force the issue

Jerry sees a lot of himself in Garrett. That's why he admires him so much. Jimmy was the opposite of Jerry, so Jerry despised him.

My mom told me how she used to date a guy who was broke, but insisted that she hand him her money under the table to pay the dinner bill so he could look like he was paying.

That's Jerry and Jimmy.

Nope, this was all Johnson's fault in the first place.

Jason was Johnson's clipboard carrier during much of his stay in Dallas and Johnson was probably the most influential person in forming Jason's coaching style.

Jason is Johnson's revenge on Jerry Jones for snubbing him in the Ring of Honor. Being inducted into the Cowboy ROH was Johnson's childhood dream and he still hasn't recovered from the bitterness.

Lol, I am so FOS, I can't even believe I typed this drivel. Happy New Year everybody!

Jerry just cannot handle a coach like Jimmy who wont allow Jerry to meddle

I know what you are getting at and many Cowboys fans are ignorant of history on this one (ignorant not meant in any sort of pejorative or insulting fashion, but that they literally don't know the facts of how that deal went down)

Fact is--Bum Bright took less money from Jerry when selling the team than Bright could have gotten from other prospective buyers, because Jerry was the only guy who wanted to start fresh with a new coach.

Bright wanted Landry fired. Bright sold to Jerry for less because Jerry was the only guy who said he would do so.
it was one of the central deciding factors in the sale of the Cowboys. Landry's dismissal was as much or more Bum Bright's call, as it was Jerry's.

And I'm not "defending" Jerry as I"m sure you aren't. It's just that this narrative of how Coach Landry ended up being relieved of his duties is often greatly misunderstood. Jerry was a factor in that process but not the sole factor, by any means.

well the truth is..it was time for Landry to go...things had gotten very stale and time to go...just like Garrett....but i am losing confidence that i can assume Jerry will respond realistically anymore...will not surprise me if Garrett is extended..I mean everything has gone from bad to worse this whole season?...i guess stick it to the fans one more time?....you know i have serious issues continuing to be a cowboy fan

TRUTH. Perfectly illustrates our nightmare: kissing Jerry’s butt and being loyal so he can have the spotlight is valued by Jerry more than the accomplishments of 2 great coaches that brought all 4 (truthfully all 5) Superbowls to this franchise. And that 5 billion The Cowboys are worth is based on those 5 Superbowls and the winning legacy Tom and Jimmy put together. Jerry, what have you done over the last 24 years to add to these coaches’s accomplishments ? Besides being the NFL’s most successful carnival barker ? Same stuff, different day...performance and accomplishments don’t matter...it’s all about Jerry. They should call it the Ring of Homer
Ok, I have to retract Tom not being added, as he was...but still no Jimmy?

I wish I could like this as many times as Jerry is meeting with his son.

Not really apples to apples. Sure Johnson earned respect for his accomplishments - I don't dispute that at all. But that was a different day and time, both Jimmy and Jerry are 25 years older, and hopefully at least somewhat wiser, and Jimmy was pretty volatile himself in those days.

depends on how pissed i was.

I think those first 2 super bowls came easy to Jerry and he thought that he had outsmarted the league. Since 1996 Jerry is still chasing that super bowl high that he can't catch anymore on his own, I would say that he wishes he could have another coach like Jimmy but he wouldn't want to share the credit still today.

I know the history which is why I asked rnr_honeybadger. Far too many blame Jerry for Landry being fired and either forget, choose not to acknowledge or have no idea that Landry was going to be fired regardless.

If he was selling, why would he care what Jerry did? Couldn't Jerry renig?
