If they are correct, why is Garrett sending the message to the office staff, coaching staff and players that he is leaving? They released the coaching staff to seek interviews. The players seem resigned to the idea that he is leaving.

Is what I have thought a lot this season actually fact? Is Garrett the one that doesn't want to stay and Booger is trying to negotiate with him for him to stay? If they were discussing a new role in the organization, Garrett is sending the wrong messages with his goodbye's. You say your goodbye's and walk out the door, you don't hang around and show up at the office for 3 meetings.

This 3rd meeting could be Booger's Hail Mary to convince him to stay because I believe Booger is at that stage where he doesn't want to break in a new HC when this one already knows how to make him comfortable.

Booger has been negotiating all of his business life and one thing he knows the value of in any negotiation is time. Time to let emotions subside, time to let ideas expand and in this case, time for the acceptance of a tough sell.

Look at us, are we not conditioning ourselves for him to extend Garrett? Time, with the help of these meetings taking place, is making that happen. He didn't announce Garrett would be leaving immediately like most wanted so what are you thinking now? Bayless is right about Booger milking the media, he's always done that but this may have more purpose than just exposure.

Because Jerry knows the only way to even justify Garrett back is to try to sell fans on the staff being the issue here, not Garrett. Then go out and hire a new staff and try to sell that as the winning formula.

You saw the plan start to develop when a story leaked last week that there was friction within the staff. It would not stun me at all to find out Jerry leaked that information as the start to formulating a scheme to justify Garrett being back. The staff was infighting and let Garrett down, so it's not fair to make him the fall guy here. So we came up with a new plan and a new staff and I am sure Jason will prove us right that he's a great coach.

Blah, blah, blah. If this goes into next week, I'd bet a large sum on this is how it's going down.

I believe it.

If Garrett gets through today's meeting and there is no announcement today or tomorrow and this drags into next week, it tells me Jerry wants him back and they are trying to figure out a way to do it and sell it to the fans.

Jerry is a fool and that final nail in the coffin of that will be when he tries to sell the fans on Garrett still being the answer.
Jerry doesn't need to sell it to the fans....they will always be here. Just look at the Thanksgiving game..highest rated game all year, when we all knew this season was lost. The fans are not going to leave the Cowboys, no matter what Jerry does....and Jerry knows this.

Yep, old Jerry is always the smartest guy in the room...........in his mind

Jerry has mental issues........he can't do ANYTHING right.

Jerry does the one thing he really values very right. DC revenue is almost twice the average NFL team and 50% more than second place. Crazy given the amount of revenue sharing. And highest value franchise every year.

He's succeeding at his goals. They just aren't the same as our goals.

I have long argued against people that say Jerry doesn't care about winning, that he only cares about his own notoriety and cash flows.

But if he brings Garrett back, sadly, I will have to admit they were right and I was wrong............. Jerry really doesn't care about winning (or more precisely, it's not his top priority).

Skip is a total clown, but I think what he is saying here resonates with a lot of us fans.

Just wonder if Jerry understands the level of frustration the fans have right now.
It resonates because fans like the soap opera and like to hear what want to believe anyway. And sure, some of that comes from frustration, but ultimately there are just a lot of fans of all teams that are attracted to that kind of tabloid level journalism.

But in this case, is it really tabloid journalism? Is it really that hard to imagine Jerry's stalling here is because he's trying to figure out a way to bring Garrett back as HC?

Garrett is not coming back. I mean who out there is jumping off the screen that we would want to desperately interview? McCarthy? We’ve never had a WCO coach. Assistants in bye weeks? I don’t see any other team rushing to interview them.

I’m not expecting this to be sorted out until the week of at least January10th. I think this strategy would help other posters here. But I do have a feeling Garrett will be moved up to the front office, which does not thrill me but keeps him off the field coaching.

What you are saying makes a lot of sense, however, logic and sense seem to go out the window when Jerry is involved.
What if this discussion is not about Garrett staying but about the lack of involvement of the Joneses with the team. What if Booger has really done some soul searching into the part he has played and maybe arrived at the right decision that it has been too much. He expanded the GM role and while he bragged about "socks to jocks" coming in, maybe he's thinking about his part in hamstringing his HC and especially second guessing Garrett's decisions....only when they have failed. Think about the effect of that.

Man, I know I am out there on this one but what if he's finally examining just how much he's been involved and how that hasn't worked? He's an egomaniac but he genuinely cares for Garrett as family but with that Linehan deal and forcing Moore on him, and who knows what else he's forced, has he been the major part of the problem? Who makes a HC in his last year take on a neophyte OC? How much of this coaching staff was actually Garrett?

Is it possible that Booger is not thinking about the job Garrett did but more about his involvement and what if Garrett had voiced opposition to some of those ideas? Is Booger not thinking as much about Garrett as the HC as himself as the GM? I am not saying he'll step aside but I think Aikman's remarks stung him hard, harder than we know, and he might be doing a little self examination during these meetings.

If you are Garrett and feel the same for the Joneses as they feel for you could you not be at the "I've taken enough for the family" stage? Not every child goes into or stays in the family business.

I don’t believe this will happen. Even if it does, I still won’t believe it

Financially investing (no going to games, buying merch), message board posting, going out of my way to be in front of the tv for Cowboys games until Garrett is gone.

I've already stopped, I use to cancel any and everything for cowboys.

If me and my girl had plans, plans work around the game, or you can watch and hang with me.

This past year, since Dak and Garrett, if I catch it I catch it.

Win or lose, I have no faith in those 2. Even if we sneak into the playoffs I know we are dog meat.

When Romo or 80% of the QBs we face, or other games I watch, when they drop back, I expect a big play or at least a good one. With Dak im always like "oh man, here we go, hopefully he completes it."

On 3rd and 7+ I have no faith him, I feel he will throw it short and just pray.

Until they are gone, or we get past the first round, I will not kill myself to watch the games or let them ruin my Sunday with a loss. So I just expect a loss, and it doesn't even hurt .

What if there was friction and what if it was with the coaches the Joneses have brought in?

Do we think everyone was on board with letting Linehan walk and putting in a coach with limited experience and why was this particular coach picked? To increase the passing game which is exactly what he did. Booger wanted a more high profile offense so he hires an ex QB, and when don't they love the pass, to call the plays with what amounted to every coach on that team having their job on the line. And every coach on that team knowing one thing, the team was built to run the ball. They didn't have the D to be a passing team.

Booger wants his passing game and he wants to keep this QB but got tired of hearing his stats used against him and the "bus driver" label so now he has the #2 passer in the NFL and an 8-8 record.

BTW, you have to go to #6 on the passing stats to find one in the playoffs and they're a WC team.

But even if there are other candidates you want to interview, there is no reason to not announce Garrett's fate now.

So if this drags out to next week, I think the odds are better than people think that Garrett is coming back.

Guys, Garrett is NOT going anywhere... one way or another JJ is keeping his pet clapper, either as the HC(which I highly doubt) or in the FO. But I'm convinced, clap isn't going any place. Can you imagine the HELL JJ will get from his grand daughter??? Isn't Garrett married to one of JJ's grand kids?? Maybe I am mistaken... but clap IS family is some fashion!

Garretts wife is his long time girlfriend, a Harvard law graduate....

Every time Romo dropped back I worried it was going to be picked. Stop with your nonsense.

It may be that they are testing to see if anyone is interested, and JJ has a face saver in the organization position for him.

If so hopefully one that does not interfere with the new HC and staff

I could see that as JJ's parting gift to his pet project...

As am I.

My wife's team is the Chiefs. I'll just watch those games with her if Garrett is back. When Garrett is gone, I'll start watching Dallas games again.

"Oh, you aren't a real fan, Tass!" Yes I am...just going to take a timeout from being emotionally invested in the team until such time as I feel good about it again.

If you love Star Wars movies but you know the next one has a crappy director, not going to see that episode doesn't mean you don't like Star Wars anymore. It just means you know that particular movie is going to suck with that director directing and you wait for the next one to get released.

There’s certainly a difference between a “fan” and a “fair weather fan”.
