New Year's Eve was one of the most important times? I guess they could have interviewed someone after several bottles of champagne and while shooting fireworks.

What would they do NYE if they didn't have a coach in waiting? Is it really likely that it would be crucial to interview someone on NYE?

Besides, having a coach in waiting isn't the only scenario where it wouldn't matter. They could have interviews scheduled for a time other than NYE, or they could be talking to coaches behind the scenes without formal interviews scheduled, or they could be looking at coaches that are still under contract and can't be approached just yet.

I made the original comment mostly out of sarcasm - it wasn't meant to be taken 100% literally.

People have lives. Of course they should enjoy NYE, in any way they see fit. My comment was more a general shot at the current situation.
