Why do you think no decision has been announced yet?

I am guessing that Jerry isn't firing JG. He is just going to let the contract run out. So there is nothing to report

This isn't the the first time Jerry has drawn out a decision that so many people are interested in.

Egotistical and narcissistic people want all the attention they can get.

Or he is the owner of the company and respects a man and his family that have come in every day to the office for the past 15 years....wait wait...no no I'm an idiot. He's doing all of it so he can get famous. My bad you're right. Sorry for thinking with my brain. I'll go back to acting like a monkey.

My guess is that they're getting all the information out of Garrett as they can. His contract is up, it's not a situation where he's to be fired or not.

What information is there to get from him? Plus, unlike most owners, Jerry and Stephen are way more involved in team matters. They apparently attend coaches meetings, etc. So they probably know almost as much as Garrett knows.

Not sure why people are SO intent to make the distinction. If the job just dried up...then I could see making the point. The cowboys decided (maybe) they no longer want him as head coach. Um....that's fired, contract or not.

Making an issue of this technical detail is ridiculous.

Jerry & Stephen have just woke up, & are in the process of kicking the strippers off the bang bus. Coffee is brewing, as they head to the Star. Announcement will be coming within the next couple hours....

Well if you respect the man and you intend to not bring him back, cut him free and let him see if he can interview for another job that might interest him. What kind of respect is Jerry showing Garrett but technically keeping him employed and keeping the outside world clueless on whether he's going to coach in Dallas or not?

Like maybe Garrett might want the Giants job. The Giants are now interviewing candidates and if Jerry drags this out for another week, out of "respect" like you claim, Garrett might miss that chance with the Giants.

If you respect the man who has been with you for 15 years and you don't intend to bring him back, cut him free now so he has the right to make decisions for himself.

I think they were being polite and giving red clapper a chance to devise a plan and tell them how he was going to turn the team around and win.

Sounds like he wore his headset to the meetings and clapped.

In my opinion there hasn’t been an announcement because they need to be able to make one heck of a splash with the new hire. Until they have a decisive plan in place that will make the fans happy nothing will be announced. Plus I think they wanted to keep JG in some sort of fashion but he wants HC or nothing. My guess anyway

Combination of 3 factors

1. stupidity and incompetence ( pretty much a given in any football decision by Jerry)

2. Jerry wanted to keep Garrett on the FO in a different capacity and he thought Garrett would agree. This would have allowed Jerry to save face and not have to admit he wasted time and careers by hiring and incompetent moron as HC. However I think that Jerry did not truly understand how stupid Garrett is and Garrett really believes he can go somewhere else and be a great HC so he is not agreeable to staying which is probably why the Thursday meeting was cancelled

3. the HC they are targeting is with a playoff team. My guess is Belichick or Payton

“Out of an abundance of care and respect” for Jason Garett.

something that wasn’t afforded Landry when Jerry was a hillbilly, and not afforded Jimmy when Jerry was drunk off his ***.
Like I said in another thread, JG has been with us for a while and I think he deserves an amicable split

There is no reason to fire him, his contract is expiring
Jerry likes being in the news
Jerry could easily already had back door conversations with next coach. Even those on playoff teams

People keep saying this, but it totally misses the point... they aren't getting together to talk about what they got for Christmas... there is some purpose that has driven the decision to meet.

I thought it would be fun to let everyone guess at why they think no decision has been made yet.

My theory is that *IF* the Cowboys are indeed not re-signing Garrett, the guy they want is on the staff of a playoff team, likely a highly seeded team with a bye week, so they know they can let Garrett finish out his contract and avoid actually "firing" him while still going after the guy they want once that happens.

What is your guess?
But if he will be so coveted by other teams why not just mutually agree to part ways and let him look for employment elsewhere. While being thoughtful and kind to him, are you not hurting him at same time?

Because the extremely poor fanbase is going to go nuts when they find out Jason Garrett isn't going anywhere.

That's the same as firing him.
I think Jerry is just taking a breath before answering the endless questions from reporters.
I think he knows who he wants, too.
Plus he is letting a lot of the assistants clear out on their own.
There's a lot of reasons for him to put off the press conferences and questions that will be coming.
Reporters aren't nice people. They will do their best to put him in a corner and make him answer questions or slip up and inadvertently give out information he may not want to.

That's something between them that we may never know the answer to.

I think Jerry is just waiting until the end of his contract on Jan 13th so that he can say he didn't fire him. He just didn't renew his contract. I believe it's out of respect for Garrett.

The point is not that we would insight into the specifics, but just that common sense says there was something substantive and with import to Red's future with the franchise.

EDIT: Again... no offense to the poster immediately above, but he or she ignores that Jerry could achieve that without bothering to meet.
