I said this 3 years ago and everyone laughed.

I don't think I would've said it 3 years ago. Then he only had one injury. If you found a replacement that early, you would've been trying to get rid of him at the beginning of his new contract. That would've been silly. So I understand why people would've laughed THEN.. Not now.

Exactly. When a team gets a player like Smith at left tackle (HoF type talent), you don't just wave goodbye to him when he shows signs of wear. He is a top 1-3 talent at the position.

Jason Peters is 8 years older than Smith, and just played a full season (one of only 3 Eagles on offense to do so). He has had so many injuries it's hard to count them all - but his presence makes a difference. He's probably done after this year...but the point is you guys should have many more years with Smith - and be happy for it.

Now his issue being his back is concerning. Sometimes those linger and get worse...but it's too soon to pull the plug on a talent like that.
Hopefully your right

I don't see Tyron Smith playing to his upper 30s like Peters, mid to young 30s is my guess, just due to so many injuries.

Yeah count me in as someone who doesn't care if a lot of players especially on defense leave... I liked Quinn's motor, it will be hard to replace if he leaves. That was probably the best off-season move the team made.

Except the only signed him for a year, foolishly banking on Gregory.

I take Looney over Sua-Filo. Only problem, Sua-Filo is wanting backup money, Looney may want to start.

People underrate Cobb in the slot. He produced the 3rd most yards in the slot. He had several big plays called back for penalties (touchdown included). He easily could’ve led the league in yards from the slot. I still bring him back on a one year, 5-6 million deal. Try and draft a guy like KJ Hill as well

It's surprising that he still had the second most carries in the league.

Also surprising that in the game everyone screamed about him taking himself out, he had the highest snap count of any RB that week at 95%. But once Joe Buck and Troy told everyone how they should feel, fans were powerless to actually think for themselves instead of just lazily riding the hate train.

Small sample size, grant it, but I see Malcolm Smith as a cheap 'priority' signing. I loved his energy, how he seemed to always be around the ball and his ability to cause turnovers. Most of all, he looked like he wanted to be on this team unlike a few of his fellow team members.

Tyrone Smith needs to go!
He doesn't need to "Go" but his replacement DOES need to be found. Guy is a walking time-bomb for retirement because of his back/neck..
Probably the most overrated narrative this decade was Tyron Smiths dooming health

2017 all we heard was how his body is failing yet he played better in 2018 then he did in 2017........

All we heard this year was the same damn thing yet if it wasn't for a fluke injury (his 40 million dollar quarterback smashing his ankle), this would of been the most healthy Tyron has been since 2016.........

I'm not saying we shouldn't look at tackle depth but reality is his healthy is very exageratted on this forum

A lot of the FAs are no-names, but it is still a LOT of bodies to replace, and that's a problem.
Some no-names but tons of starters

There's like 8 starters that aren't under contract next year (Cobb, Quinn, Bennett, Byron, Maliek/Convington, Dak, Cooper, Witten). You also got starters like LVE and Connor Williams who are question marks health wise

Cowboys if there smart need to pull a greenbay and actually go out and sign quality free agent starters

EDIT: Packers literally upgraded 5 starting positions last year via free agency (Safety, both DE spots, Guard, and CB). Cowboys are gonna need to do something similiar with all the holes in the starting depth chart

22 unrestricted free agents!!! 15 on defense. We have some major issues coming up. All these big contracts nean many will leave. Not liking the way this is gonna go. Need to sign Cooper, possibly Dak, but not 30 mil plus. Tyrone Smith needs to go. Vander just had surgery. Gonna have alot of holes.. what about a new coach? Im nausea already... Go Cowboys!!!!

According to Overthecap.com, there is 86m in cap space.

UFA
Bennett - many like his professionalism and intensity, not a bad resign if price is right
Quinn - Best pure pass rusher on the roster, but needs to be a designated rusher, not a full time player
Cooper - Torn on him, he is good, not sure he is 15m+ good
Cobb - I want him back...as an older vet maybe a 2-3 year deal for less annually than his 5m hit this past year
Witten - back only for vet min
Lee - back only on cheap deal
Jones - Like him but not a difference maker, pass on huge FA $$$
Heath - Probably a goner
Thomas - Would be interested in keeping
Austin - goner
Covington - goner
LaDouceur- resign to vet min
Looney - reasonable short term deal as interior swing man
Hyder - Vet minimum type deal, maybe a little more
Smith - Bye
Forbath - Resign to minimum, bring in a rookie to compete
Collins - Not a consistent performer, not worth big money, would keep A. Woods for cheaper deal
Sua-Filo - not a priority signing
March Lillard - meh
Armstrong - meh
Thompson - meh
Prescott - At worst gets franchised
Goodwin - Cheap resigning
Ross - Meh
Brown - Try to resign on cheap coming off injury
Frazier

RFA
Jarwin - give lower tag
Rush - give lower tag
Woods - give lower tag

ERFA
Redmond - resign

In addition,
Crawford - cut, save $8m in cap space
Fleming - cut, save $4.5m in cap space
C. Jones - cut, save 1.4m
Olawale - cut, save $500k
That is 14.4m saved

Depth chart at end of this
QB - Prescott,Rush, Thorson
RB - Elliott, Pollard, Weber, Jr, Chunn
TE - Jarwin, Schulz, Witten(vet min)
OT - Smith, Collins, Knight, Hyatt, Miller
OG - Martin, Williams, McGovern, Redmond
C - Frederick, Looney(resign), Henry
WR - Gallup, Cobb, N. Brown, D. Smith, V. Bryant, Wilson, Jr, J. Johnson, C. Westry
FG - Forbath, rookie or FA
LS - Ladouceur

DE - Lawrence, Armstrong, Gregory, J. Jackson, Jelks, Bennett or Quinn(resign 1), Wise
DT - Hill, Woods(resign),
LB - J. Smith, Vander Esch, J. THomas(resign), S. Lee (vet min or cheap), Covington, Gifford
CB - Lewis, Awuzie, Brown(resign), Olumba, Burton
S - Woods, Wilson, Goodwin(resign)
P - Rookie or FA

In reality, offense is pretty much reset. We would need a relatively high pick on another WR, lower pick on a blocking TE.

Defense as a big hole at DT and Safety, but what is new. CB and LB need help too. Maybe a FA signing from the outside to fill big hole at DT.

It's surprising that he still had the second most carries in the league.

We have fans who only watch Cowboys games. They have no basis for comparison, they just know our players aren't perfect. Brilliant football minds. :muttley:

Thought Tyron played better this year than last. Thought he struggled in the Bills game, but other than that, he seemed to be getting back to his old level.

First 4 games he was playing at an all-pro level and the last 7 games he only had a combined 1 holding call and great overall game grades.

Really the only struggles he had was that 3 game span where he was trying to come back from injury (an injury that wasn't even his fault, Dak literally shattered his ankle).

That's why I laugh when people say get rid of him. If it wasn't for his QB shattering his ankle this would of been the most healthy he's been since 2016 and he probably would of snuck into the 2nd team for the all-pro selection
