No one talking about Matt Rhule this morning?

The fact that Matt Rhule turned that program around that quickly and got them in that game is amazing. Look at where Baylor's recruiting classes have been the last 5 years compared to Georgia.

Rhule is just about the only coach I can think of that would be an interesting addition to me. I don’t hold out much hope of significant improvement until Jerry is gone and the team commits to using a more valid structure in management. Rhule though has shown the capacity at the college level to take pieces he’s been given and make it work, and he’d certainly be strapped to big contracts soon he may not even want. He seems good at creating an appropriate culture which may mitigate Jerry to an extent.

Matt Rhule has a salary of over $4M per year plus a hefty bonus. Someone would probably have to buy out his contract at Baylor and I'm guessing the buyout would be over $10M.

Any NFL team wanting Rhule would have to pay $10M buyout (guess) plus offer Rhule over $7M/year guaranteed for 5 years plus hire a whole new assistant coaching staff with guaranteed contracts. To bring Rhule on as a HC in the NFL, the team would have to commit $10M buyout plus $35M guaranteed Rhule salary plus $20M guaranteed salary for assistants over 5 years.

Maybe teams are balking at the amount of money it will take for an unproven commodity in the NFL. Then again, the team has to pay someone to coach and all the coaching contracts are guaranteed. Always a gamble in the NFL with players and coaches.

I am surprised there is not more chatter about Matt Rhule this morning after Baylor was defeated by a banged up Georgia Bulldogs team last night. I admit I haven't watched much college football this year and this was my first real look at Baylor and their head coach, Matt Rhule. Its one game and I will keep that in perspective, but as I watched the game I tried to picture Rhule as the Cowboys Head Coach. The parallels to the Cowboys were inescapable. Georgia was missing a bunch of injured starters yet they dominated. Does that sound familiar? Baylor made a lot of dumb mistakes, like encroachment penalties, dropped passes, and a really bad decision to go for it on 4th and 4 around mid-field early in the 4th quarter. They failed, gave Georgia momentum and a short field. Georgia drove for a TD to basically ice the game. I wonder if Rhule had a Maher-type kicker, would he have tried a 60 yard FG instead of going for it? This was all too reminiscent of the Cowboys 2019 season.

Again, it was one game, but maybe it was a sign that Matt Rhule is not the guy for the Dallas Cowboys.
I'd hire him in a heartbeat.

He is a massive upgrade over Garrett.

Lol! No, he didn’t get a smooth ride until his 3rd season what games were you watching?!?

And fans were apoplectic over that extension.
I was in full favor of the extension. But I was dumb. I based my opinion on the results of his final year and not the full body of work.

Stupid of me.

But I have learned from it. So many others have not.

It took me about 8 years to become apopletic. More Jason Garrett will make me totally apethetic and non caring. More Jason Garrett will be proof that Jerry does not care about winning. So why should I?

Anyone who judges a coach on 1 game does not deserve posting privileges.

I guess I underestimated how angry Cowboys fans are over the way this season went. So many comments attacking me because I mentioned that there was not a lot of commentary about Matt Rhule the day after his big bowl game. LOL. I suppose I should stick to the thread about cutting Dak, flushing the entire team down the drain, Jerry giving up his GM job - you know, all the realistic stuff that so many others are taking about.

How about, Georgia 2nd and 3rd string being better than Baylor. We are talking Baylor...right?

 Not sure your problem but none of that had anything to do with my comment about judging a coach on 1 game is not smart.

Anybody who plays linebacker for the Nittany Lions as a walk-on must be doing things the right way.

What about this statement is confusing to some of you?

"I'm never going to be in an arranged marriage. I'm never going to sub-contract out jobs for offense and defense. I'm always going to hire people I believe in ... and are going to do things our way."

Yep. He's not coming here to work under the biggest meddler in sports. He either takes the Giants job or he stays at Baylor.

Some fans can't accept the fact that there are a number of coaches who won't even consider working for this franchise.

Hurts too much.

I'm sorry but I don't get why Ruhle is even mentioned. I feel that there are other better prospects out there as coach than Matt Ruhle.

Rhule is going to stay at Baylor. Makes good money, has full backing of boosters/AD, can run the whole operation without oversight, better job security, etc.

It's why a lot of college coaches aren't eager to jump to the NFL - they'd be leaving a better situation.

Yes but the nicest thing about NFL is not having to spend your off-season flying all over the country visiting recruits
