Two narratives that are being reported recently appear to be painting an all too familiar picture.

1. Jerry and Co. are interested in an experienced coach, as they don't want to endure the tedious process of teaching a new one. However,

2. The braintrust at the Star have mentioned to candidates they'd like to keep Moore on staff.

If these are both true does it not look like Wade Phillips / Jason Garrett all over again? Moore (former backup Cowboys QB just like JG) gains experience as OC under a more experienced head coach. If and when things go south for the team the more experienced coach is let go and Moore is promoted to head coach.

They may not be interested in grooming a new young HC because they think they've got him on staff. Again, this is based on 2 things that have been reported without proof that either are true. Further, even if both are true, maybe 2 & 2 don't equal 4 and I'm just going stir crazy.

I sincerely hope I am wrong about this.

IMO if McCarthy is the HC he needs a Kellen type of mind to give input on RPO's ect.

honestly I don’t know that you can answer that question without total speculation. Moore did produce, whether bc of opponetns or situations, the top offense in the nfl.

a lot will depend on the defense I feel at this point and how the head coach comes in and dictates overall strategy.

not saying your statement is wrong just saying I think there are far too many variables to make the association with any degree of confidence

right now the "fun" seems to be painting the worst scenario, supporting it by saying jones sucks, and then pretending this is going to be what happens and buy some emotional insurance just in case.

last week started by people saying jones was missing out on all the good coaches, garrett will be signing a new deal, be made GM, and any other football apocolypse they could dream up into their own reality to see out here in the forums. while i did agree the delay was frustrating, i said at the time it wouldn't matter cause no one would get hired anyway. outside rivera no one was.

we missed out on no one.

now again - i fully agree if jones tries to build a staff himself it undermines the overall purpose of the coach and is cause for concern. we will see if that's what he does or not, sure. but i'm ok with waiting to see vs. putting myself into panic mode.

McCarthy was always the playcaller for GB , he let it go briefly then took back the reins.
I dont think he would want kellen as play caller.
Neither would any coach wanting to be play caller.
Kellen might be kept on as offensive coach, but not calling plays.

Only if a defensive coach were hired, would kellen maybe be used as play caller.

And @ op, it is similar, and jones boys could be looking to make kellen HC at some point.
What they evidently dont get , is HC isnt really about x's and o's, it is about leadership in all phases, and game mgmt.

McCarthy always had a good team, but was lacking in leadership and game mgmt to some degree.
The one time he won a SB was with a young hot Rodgers, and a very good defense. once players left after SB and they paid rodgers, they
never made it back to a SB even though they should have. 15-1 season and they were one and done in playoffs, losing at home lol

Definitely can't draw any conclusions, just an off the wall coincidence that got me to pondering. But it is' as you state, purely speculation.

I am in no way in panic mode I just noticed some interesting parallels and decided to put it out there. I was careful to state that it could be nothing at all (and likely is).

Yeah, that's what I don't like. Bring in a new coach and let him build his team of coaches as he pleases. That way the HC can be held accountable without a shadow of a doubt.

Kellen does seem to have a good offensive mind for the game, but I'm not sure he's a leader of men.

Why do some of you do this to yourselves? You get all excited about the "hot" coordinator or the "hot" college coach then forget Jerry is still running the Cowboys.

It's going to be McCarthy, Lewis, Fisher, or some other retread. Former head coaches just aching for another chance, like Wade Phillips. After the JG experience no way is Jerry going the coordinator route again.

If Moore stays on staff, we'll know immediately that Jerry has hired the offensive version of Fat Wade Phillips.

We aren't going to win anything as long as Jones is alive. That's a fact we're all going to have to come to grips with.
