Didn't want him in the first place, Aaron Rodgers not coming with him. If Jerry names the staff I really hate it. Nothing changes.
Did we really expect things to change with JJ still alive??

Not one of my top choices, but I'm willing to give him a chance. Let's hope he doesn't clap after a dumb play and pat the player on the back. Hopefully, we won't have our best players tapping out during key points of games. Ending insane rotations that have our best receivers on the sideline for a game deciding play.

He helped resurrect Favre's career, he developed ARodg, he won a Super Bowl, has been to multiple NFC Championship games, and has a winning playoff record. I think he's a pretty good hire
You are already drinking the Kool aid. He had elite QB's to work with. Of course he has had a lot more success. Won't be the case here.. even though I do love Dak. He isn't elite though.

He's proven to be better than Garrett. He's won a SB. Has an over all better record. Certainly a step up. IMO...a solid hire. That being said....time will tell.

He'll show his true colors almost immediately i.e. if we aren't clearly better by mid year 2 you can move on

He has supposedly done a lot of work this year to re-evaluate and evolve his coaching and he'll need it.

The kind of product he was putting on the field his last 2 seasons was disgustingly conservative and short-sighted. He'll get run out of town early if he doesn't change.

If he has evolved then I think we'll be competitors immediately which I couldn't say about any of the college coaches.

Last time Jerry went conservative we passed on Randy Moss, how did that all work out?

He was/is my top choice.
Ran excellent ground based offenses around Frank Gore in SF and Ricky Williams in NO then ran a pass first offense in GB with Rodgers.
Won asst coach of the year and then compiled HC record of
Regular season: 125–77–2 (.618)
Postseason: 10–8 (.556)
Career: 135–85–2 (.613)
4 NFC Championship Games and 1 Super Bowl win.

He is not wthout warts but he is 56 having been the youth savant kid (see Kellen Moore) about 15 years ago.
So he comes with experience and accomplishments.

I don't know how anyone can argue we must fire JG because of his lack of playoff success than crap on hiring the guy who has had the most playoff success.
McCarthy is likely the most qualified guy available and definitely has the best track record.

Is he Belichek? Nope. But BB isn't available and likely wont be available to any team this year without draft compensation.

I like that he has spent a year modernizing his approach and just refreshing.
It's clear he loves the game and wanted back in.
I think he'll relish coaching Dak, a humble guy with a good toolset and a lot of toughness.

I like it for these reasons:

1) QB Guy: Has worked with top QBs and has been great with them. Despite fallout with Rodgers he developed him. Favre likes the guy.

He erased this due to misspelling but same deal

"Great hire by the Cowboys! Had Mike McCarthy as my QB coach for 4yrs in KC and he was the best. Organized, prepared, detail oriented and a great leader! No one should be more excited than Dax Prescott."

2) His record is as good as Payton, Reid, etc. Overall if we were going with experience/wins the only other guy better would have been Harbaugh

3) He has playoff success. SB success.

Listen he isn't a sexy pick. There are other guys that are in college who could build a monster here....but we have talent that I don't want to waste now. The more I read, the more I'm sold.

After reading the Bleacher Report article, I'm concerned about the McCarthy hiring, especially the part about him having the lowest IQ among coaches and how he was disinterested in joining his team while they were practicing.
We DO NOT need another coach who is half-hearted in his approach to football.
The Packers underachieved with McCarthy as coach. The debacle in Seattle was just ridiculous.
Then again, I have no control over anything Jerry Jones does. So I have to rely on the fact that at least McCarthy has coordinator and coaching experience and has won a Super Bowl.
Despite what the article says about him, hope is the only thing I have left as it relates to these Cowboys.

I wanted the Cowboys to fire Garrett and hire McCarthy as soon as the Packers let him go.
I never wanted Garrett hired to begin with, but the Cowboys needed this hire to re-establish NFL caliber leadership and play.
The Cowboys are fortunate that McCarthy was still available.
for me though his OC and DC hires are much more critical, he has to hire some up to date minds for the new nfl.. we cant have an archaic outdated schemes and being pass happy, not using zeke and pollard enough and playing soft defense.

Sounds like Jerry knew exactly who he wanted all along.

This has always made the most sense.
With JG being a lame duck all year Dallas had plenty of time to evaluate all options and this guy has won a lot.
Team and MM both had time to evaluate what went wrong in GB.
Jerry has always kept a short list.

I don't think he's an offensive innovator, but if you give him all the tools - he can keep the team a winning team better than Garrett.

If he wins on average just 2 more games per year than Garrett, I'll consider that a good hire.

In short, he can make very good use of his tools, and it doesn't look he'll ever sink us. But I can't say for sure if we'll win a Super Bowl with him.

Of course Jerry is kissing his a**. But Mike seems tougher than Garrett, so I hope his a** kissing Jerry Jones exists only at dinner parties, and he's all business on the field. Something Garrett isn't.

Pretty neutral...I’ll wait and see. Could def be worse, but I would have preferred to not go the retread coach route. The rest of the staff will also be very important for judging
