What kind of offense will McCarthy run?

Word is that McCarthy has been studying offenses in his time away from the league. There is also a chance that Moore may remain and be the OC.

I have watched some of the videos of him talking about offenses and plays and QBs, what seems relevant is that this guy KNOWS the QB position, it's his obsession with the QB schools and studies of Joe Montana etc.

He interviewed at Giants, Browns, and Panthers, and I do believe he could have had his pick of other jobs as well, and he in two days (one? or maybe already knew) decided that he wanted to enter into the league with Dak as his QB. We can all fuss and argue about Dak on this board, but there isn't one poster on this board that knows more about QB play than McCarthy, and he is choosing to roll with him for his second stint in the league. To me that says a lot.

One thing to consider about his offense, it's not that he doesn't want to run, he's not had the talent like DAL has and he even tried to turn Ty Montgomery into a RB.

It's going to be a lot of passing. You thought it was bad this year with Moore? Oh boy. Dak has a lot of work to do this offseason because McCarthy is pass heavy, like Moore. I feel sick...
Why?

To succeed in a run happy attack like Dallas..you have to back off the 8 in a box to reduce the OL pressure from an overloaded defensive front.

Dak got better as the year went on throwing. He took way less sacks and that helped field position exchanges.

Yes..some of it was junk time where we were too far behind and playing prevent defenses.

But Dak needed work in live time to get any better. Same for the rest of the OL and receivers like Jarwin and Zeke.

You do realize we very nearly had THREE 1000+ yd. receivers in 2019.

Not sure we can duplicate that again in 2020.

So if Moore stays, which is probable along with other offensive staff..

a coach like McCarthy need only call his injection of key plays at key times.

This changes the mix and tendency of the playcalling.

That alone should move everything along and re-energize the offense to attack, not setup for failure as we tend to do as good well coached defenses will do.

Kitna is a nebulous factor to me. He obviously is in the playcalling to assist Moore for expertise Moore lacks in the playcalling and execution in live games but a guy like McCarthy sort of makes him redundent.

He has to be more of a factor or let him go.

Less than 180 carries for Zeke. Praying Dak can make things out of nothing like Rodgers did. It's going to be a disaster. I don't buy all the hype that he's been studying trends and has changed, etc. People don't change. Especially NFL coaches. I guess Urban Meyer wasn't really interested or JJ wasn't interested in Meyer? Sigh.
Jerry plainly said he preferred nfl guys
Even talked about the learning curve for college coaches so not much of a shock to me

You're better off throwing the ball 60 times a game than "establishing the run" or whatever 1990s mantra we want.

This offense is better right now simply because the priority will be, you know, scoring touchdowns.

I keep reading that McCarthy spent the last year preparing for his next head coaching assignment. I like that a lot. Preparation is everything. It sounds like we can expect some new wrinkles on offense and a team that will be prepared with real game plans on Sundays. The Packers like to run those crossing routes with a lot of picks. I used to complain that the Packers were always blocking downfield before the QB released the ball but they only got called for it once out of 10 plays.

But football is still won i the trenches. If they don't fix the defense, starting with the DL, we will see a lot of shootouts in 2020./

My big concern, as yours, is who is going to be the DC.
My thoughts exactly

Did he really have a choice? McCarthy was hired
with a lot of stipulations which includes accepting Jerry’s choice of asst coaches. Do you really think that Jerry would have hired him if Dak was not part of the deal?

Eddie Lacy averaged well more than 180 carries from 2013 - 2015. Ricky Williams wasn't exactly starved for carries under McCarthy as OC. Give McCarthy a good RB, he'll use them.

Of course he had a choice, because he had a choice in what team he was going to coach. He could have chosen to work with any number of top-10 pick QBs in Daniel Jones, Baker Mayfield, even selected his own at Carolina (Herbert or Tua easily doable with their #7 pick) and instead he chose to have Dak as his QB by choosing to sign that Cowboys contract.
