McCarthy will learn very quickly that Dallas has zero home field advantage in January...gonna be a very rude awakening!

I'm going to call it a meh plus.

Not a dynamic hire. Had some serious flags leaving GB.

OTOH, I like that he is recognizing that he has to change and be better. Him studying in his year off and happily saying that he is going to change things is pretty interesting. Garret could never bring himself to look in the mirror.

I'm cautiously optimistic. The DC is going to be huge. No more bend but don't break prevent style defenses.

I like it, but don't think his personality will help with Jerry. We'll see.

Something fresh with a proven history of success. For me excited to see the screen pass as part of the regular offense ran correctly and the west coast fits Daks passing skills imo. Is he the best hire available, obviously debatable, but proven and what this team needs now. I’m ready for the draft and OTAs now!

I would have rather of kept Garrett to be honest. I was hoping we would go younger but I also didn't think it would happen. Not excited but let's see what he can do.

I wanna hear from you guys? I just don't know. Can fans more in the know about him comment please. Thanks.
Im about as excited or on par with the level of excitement as when we hired Parcells.
That's not the worst, but not the best, but at least we have a "real" HC.
In addition, McCarthy has actually been spotted talking into his headset.

Meh. I will try and post a long article dissecting the issues with McCarthy's offense. It is the same issues we faced here. Long developing routes, telegraphed screens and never utilizing the middle of the field. Their best success on offense was when their talented WRs beat their man off the ball. Exactly the same as here. McCarthy's offense was hot when he first got in the league but he never once adjusted to when the league figured it out. In fact when you watched Rodgers and the Packers, when did the have their best success? When Rodgers scrambled and improvised. Sound familiar? Yeah, that was Romo under Garrett the entire time. Play design was terrible but Romo was good enough to improvise.

Ok..sick of hearing about what we need to do for the offense!! If you been watching the payoffs? No defense-regardless of what you have on offense-you're out. I hope he brings in great defensive coaches. Again. I don't want ONE of our past DC coaches on this new defensive coaching staff!! I'm more optimistic then pessimistic about the HC hiring. But I have my concerns.

Obviously Jerry was looking for someone with NFL experience. He should have hired Ron Rivera, but McCarthy is the best of the rest of slim pickings. Now he needs to hit a home run hiring a defensive coordinator.

except with that mindset, no one could have been hired to make you happy.

so i don't get the point or logic or goal of this mindset.
How about we hire coach and give him control over football operations completely. Which means hiring his own staff having control over the players there. Making it his own identity. I understand that Jerry and his son want to get the players here but having a coach like this smells like it's the same stuff again and there won't be any real change for the better in the long run.

Exactly my thought. He was ran out of GB after players complained about his offense being predictable and unimaginative. Just like Garrett.

After dealing with Jimmy and Parcells, I'm thinking Jerry doesn't want a headstrong HC anymore. He doesn't want his authority being challenged. That's why he keeps hiring nobodies and puppets.
It must have been because of the spudity of their opponents that they could not figure out that "predictable offense" and GB could make 4xNFCC and 1 SB.

I was indifferent when his name first popped up, but the more I’ve heard about his QB development abilities the more I’m warning up to it. I always shrugged it off because he had Arod, but read up on some of the stuff with like Rich Gannon and how he specifically credited McCarthy for turning his career around and the MVP he won etc. He also seems like a workaholic.

I’m on the fence. He has to show me instant improvement in all aspects but especially scheme, preparation, and mental toughness from his players. I don’t really like retread coaches who have failed and been fired elsewhere even after having success. That points to lack of innovation and adjusting to a changing league. I want to see modern offense and defense. I don’t want to see exactly what worked for Green Bay 10 years ago with an all-pro QB. I want to see what will work today with Dak at QB and I’m not sure any retread is the answer to that. He isn’t Garrett so I’ll give him my support to begin with but I’m in total show me results mode.

Failed?

The guy went to 4 NFC championship games and won a SB.
