Yes, Jason Garrett needed to be fired, and the Cowboys needed to move on to another coach. Now that they've settled on Mike McCarthy, it is time to quit dunking on Jason Garrett. Whatever else you may say about Garrett, he gave the Cowboys 20 years of dedicated service, and although he came up short, no one can honestly say he didn't give it his best effort.

The vast majority of "fans" gloating over his firing couldn't come close to being as professional as Garrett, and couldn't coach the team better than Garrett did. It is sad that he didn't become what Jerry Jones hoped he would be.

Sometime in the future, Garrett may get another chance elsewhere. At that point, we'll find out if Garrett was really the issue and is truly just a mediocre coach, or if Garrett was too hamstrung by Jerry Jones to have a true opportunity to be successful. Whatever the case, it clearly wasn't working for Dallas. Quite frankly, I don't know if it was Garrett, or if the Cowboys coaching environment is so toxic that no one can be successful. I do know (along with everyone else who is gloating) that Garret and Jones weren't getting it done together in Dallas, and that Jones isn't leaving. So Garrett had to go.

But I think the man deserves more respect than many are giving him. He has been a dedicated Cowboy for a long time, and his family has been associated with the Cowboys for even longer. Surely, that service deserves more respect than what some fans are dishing out.

See my sig.....

The Garrettphiles touted him for a decade, told us how he was the Next Landry, how his intelligence and culture would fix everything, etc... and now less than 20 hours after his firing is official, they want us to leave poor Jason alone.

No. Not happening.
I didn't see a lot of people touting him as the next Landry. In any case, even if there were people wrong about him, so what? We all are wrong about players and coaches at times. Garrett worked hard at the job and ultimately fell short of accomplishing what he was hired to accomplish. It happens all the time. It's not something he should be scored for, and that's not why the change is being made. It's a business decision to improve the talent in the head coaching spot.

I'll never stop dogging on Garrett. I've dealt with that **** eating grin of his for over a third of my life.

I think to be reasonable, we suffered for 9 years so in 2029, we can remove the Clapper tag...
Although I will make one exception, If the Giants sign him, I will consider that him repaying Jerry's loyalty by sabotaging a division rival! And I will remove the Clapper tag on day one

I'm thinking New York...
Possibly. Or Cleveland.
Though I'm sure the Browns will try hard to get home-boy Meyers to come there.
Then again, might not be until 2021 as there are only 3 openings.

10 years on the job, he never sniffed contention. The proof is in the pudding, and he is what most of us thought he was. A mediocre charlatan milking his relationship with the Jones' for a position he wasn't qualified for and should've relinquished his duties years ago.

Garrett was doomed the minute Dak took the field as a rookie. His 10 years as HC peaked in Green Bay when Dez dropped that catch. It's been a slow 5 year death since.

The moment Garrett decided to backstab Tony Romo, the only reason why he even had ANY success to that point was a milestone in his career. I knew it would just be a matter of when from there. Tony Romo had much worse teams than Dak has had, but always kept us competitive. Without him, I knew Garrett would fail, just as he did when he lost nearly every game when Romo was injured and the division was a dumpster fire to the point where had he just won one or two more games, we could have had a chance at the playoffs.

Yes, so did Dave Campo, so does every coach. But they weren't celebrated like this guy was.

They also didn't get a decade to display their constant "building" and lack of results.

And if you don't remember many "Next Landry" posts, you must be new here.

Uh, please don't tell me when to stop being jubilant that this particular pimple on the behind of humanity has been eliminated from my team.

All wounds heal with time.....soon enough, clap will be a distant memory....VERY DISTANT! I don't hate Garrett, what I do have is a total disrespect for his my way or no way coaching. How many times does the door need to hit you in the face until you figure out you need to step back.....I won't miss him, but I am done bringing him up as conversation.

Is he finally gone, or still lurking in the halls? Good riddance, if I never here about him again would be fine with me.

Well I am glad I now know what Jason Garrett's username is on here.

But seriously, Garrett is a terrible coach and does nothing well and he wasted the primes of so many talented players. I will thank him for anything. the only reason he was with Dallas for so long is because he is basically Jerry's stepson and would never let go.

The issue I had with Garrett is that even he knew he didn't deserve to be HC. I was more annoyed with the reporters at the post Commanders presser who never asked 'Do you think you have done enough to be HC next season'

I wanted to know his answer.
ROFL... I'm betting it would have sounded something along the lines of what Maher told reporters after missing like ALL his FG attempts..."I feel pretty good about what I have done"....MEH

He has been a dedicated Cowboy for a long time
So has rowdy ! what about him?
Garrett does not read or come to CZ so he isnt going to know about any of this. He referred to us and media etc as noise.
So to him you are just noise, yet your worried about his feelings?
If I were in his shoes I would expect what he is getting, and just deal with it, and he should be able to handle it.

He is a mega millionaire, and I cant feel sorry for mega millionaires, maybe that is a character flaw, lol but I just cant.

I think no matter who we get as HC, we will see improvements and not the same amateur hour stuff we have had to endure with JG.

it will be interesting to see if he gets another HC job, and what he does with that.

Oh boy here we go... Let me just say this, Garrett loved this organization and was enabled to keep a job without success for way too long. Of course this isn't Jason's fault so I do give him a pass but just like everyone else I wanted him gone. We were stuck with Jerry no matter what so eventually Jason was doomed to catch our ire. I do wish him well and success in whatever he does, but it was time to move on.

The Cowboys moving forward are going to have to get lucky to get to a superbowl we all know that, so changing coaches every few years if we don't see great progress is really the only way to go. I know Jerry wanted to change his ways and stick with a coach longer this go round, but the results were the same and that was failure. Lets all be glad we've moved on from Jason but also not harbor too much negativity because we all know he was a product of Jerry's craziness.

If MM takes us deep in to the playoffs with pretty much the same team, you can bet there would be a lot more dunking going on for JG.

Why do you say he worked hard when there is plenty of evidence to support he did not. Going to a basketball game when you have short week, never game planning for specific opponents. Not taking over special teams this year when they were a disaster.
