I just can't imagine Mike McCarthy taking a puppet position in Dallas the first week of January when he has so many teams interested in him who have yet to hire anyone.

Doesn't make sense to me. What does make sense is he heard what he needed to hear from Jerry to believe he will have enough authority to make it work.

That is why I consider this a good hire. It changed Jerry to some degree. That was the key in this coaching change and I have every reason to believe it happened.

I consider this a good hire also. Jerry would not have listened or would have felt uncomfortable with a college hire or someone wet behind the ears.

McCarthy hire isn't flashy. But he will command respect in the locker room - that also includes the Jones.

That site is run by a guy from Pennsylvania. You do the math.
I know that but thought it was pretty funny on his description of the hiring. I am indifferent on it. Wasn't who I wanted but maybe a year away helped him and he is our next Andy Reid. I hope he is.

Zeke caught 50 passes or more each of the last 2 years.

In the last 7 years the packers have not had a RB catch more passes than this.

They had Eddie "dump truck" Lacey catching 44 passes in 2014 and most years the backs caught about 60 pases collectively. They never had a feature back like Zeke in his GB tenure.

When he was the OC of thee Saints in the early 00s, McAllister caught the ball a lot.

What I am really talking about is how the backs are used in the running game. Garrett's teams had the backs run screens, flares, and the occasional wheel. WCO calls for a lot more sprints, curls and the like for the backs to substitute for running the ball.

The more I am reading the more open I am to this hire.

1. He has a way way way better resume than our previous coach.

Say what you will about having Rodgers. And I hear the argument.

the man won a Super Bowl and made a conference title game 4 times.

He made a conference championship game 4 freaking times in 12 years. That’s 33% of the time. And that’s INCLUDING having two seasons where he lost Rodgers.

The man is a serious upgrade over our past coach. And if he is also serious about developing a massive analytics program. That’s even better.

Jason Garrett had the play calling duties ripped away from him years ago. Jerry hired the OC's and gave them play calling duties.
I'm not a JG fan at all. But I am not going to blame him for crap he had no control over either.

Jason's playcalling was so bad that they had to do what they needed to do. He was lucky that they didn't can him that year. Any other NFL team would have done so immediately.

I agree. When you hire an OC and take away his ability to be an OC then you are basically done.
This is why I preferred a guy like Meyer who was a leader of men more than an OC type.

Now we have a coach who was considered one of the stalest OC's who was bullied out of town by his HOF QB.

Let's hope for a better outcome this time around. But if McCarthy is neutered the way JG was then it will be the same result.
Jerry needs to just coach the team since he seems to want to so badly anyway.

He better be careful because his last job because of outdated offense.

Well San Fran, GB and KC all run a version of WCO. It's not the style of offense that makes it outdated but how you use it.

Our offensive personal seems better to run a WC type of offense. More screens, slants, bootlegs, etc. I think Dak and Zeke will be a better fit for this style of offense. This will also fair well with Amari Cooper.

From all indications, McCarthy is willing to keep Moore and is looking to hire his own DC, Mike Nolan. It means that Jerry has relinquished some of his authority in hiring the staff himself. That is a good sign. I doubt that would have happened if we hire a coach that Jerry doesn't trust or respect.

When you have Aaron Rodgers and your division consist of the Lions, Bears, and Vikings over the last 10 years getting to the NFC Championship game means the best QB in football only had to win 1 home game on the best January home field advantage turf in the league.

Apparently Dave Gettlemen just hired 4 full time computer guys to run a new analytics program for the Giants.......Just randomly throwing it out there.
