Yet somehow the Cowboys still ended up with the 4th best one if it plays out that way.
Yeah, no. We got a dude that has had a ton of playoff success as a HC. And a title.
And I know he had Rodgers. Even with him, they would have gotten nowhere without good coaching.
Look how Romo was wasted with a mediocre coach.

McDaniels' last stint at HC/roster czar was a miserable failure. I wouldn't be worried at all if he goes to the Giants.

He's a talented X's and O's guy on offense, but he has no experience managing players who didn't play in the locker room of fear that Belichick installed, and he seemed to have little to no eye for talent as a drafter. Great coordinator, bad HC, bad GM.

Aaron Rodgers carried that team despite poor coaching. I love Romo but Rodgers is in another stratosphere of QBs compared to him and watching the Packers it was clear why the players did not want McCarthy there. The playcalling was painfully predictable and only bailed out by either Rodgers using his hard count to bait an offsides and then just casually throw a TD pass 50 yards downfield or he would dodge 3 sacks rollout and hit a 50 yard pass in stride. Then the defense would give up a 9 play 80 yard drive to cancel it out (this was before the touchback rule change).

He was a mediocre coach carried by an all-time great in his prime playing better than possibly any player ever and still could only get 1 SB out of it. We saw what they were when Rodgers went down. Great coaches can find ways to win games despite injury even if you cannot go all the way; the Eagles made the playoffs despite having an entire roster get injured, the Steelers went 8-8 with a 4th-string QB, and the Packers were the Browns when their QB went down. That does not happen to great coaches.

Says you. Around the league that's certainly not the consensus.

If he was such a commodity other teams would have tried to lock him after the interview rather than continuing on with the rest of the people on their lists; if he was such a great coach, why did he have to spend a bunch of time talking about how much he has changed and how he has finally evolved to keep up with the game. Andy Reid has been coaching for 40 years and has never let the game pass him by. If you are a great coach, you should not have to go on TV and explain that after 10 years you finally decided to start modernizing and keeping up with the new NFL, also known as your job as a coach. If you were a great coach you were already doing that.

Might be in the minority here but I’ve never liked McDaniels

failed miserably for attempting to be the smartest guy in the room in Denver...

Came back to the best situation in football with BB and Brady.

Wait, hold em up! I thought Jerry told us that teams would be in line for the services of Jason Garret and he was a hot commodity! Shouldn't Garrett have already interviewed in New York since he is the chosen son of NY?

You said fourth best in the division and that includes Rivera and (possibly)McDaniels. Rather than argue MMs resume why dont you tell me why those guys are so much better?

I think we can both agree I do not need to justify the Eagles head coach.

Ron Rivera is an example of what I talk about when I say you need to find a way to win when things do not go your way which McCarthy also never could. Cam Newton is not a great QB. He is probably around average and maybe below average depending on who you ask (certainly he is a far below average passer of the football). Yet despite having some bad injuries to Cam the past couple years, and despite not having great players on offense, and a defense with some very good players but some holes, he still used the talent that they had in order to win. In the NFL the healthiest team wins in the playoffs, but usually the great coaches can keep you in contention and he has, and when healthy a la 2015 great coaches can help make a run (as a note JG has NEVER been able to make that run despite the Cowboys generally being a fairly healthy team compared to the rest of the league).

Josh is a pretty easy one to make. I know people can point to Denver but really that was a situation with a lot of drama and with the QB situation being what it was you ended up effectively going 8-8 with a backup QB before the wheels really fell off next year. With such a limited amount of head-coaching experience I instead turn to his time as coordinator and the SB offenses and Josh fundamentally changed how the Patriots played. He coached the Patriots offense into relevancy because before him the offense had one job, manage the game so that the defense could win it, but when he takes over suddenly the offense is winning games and setting records. Josh has shown me more than McCarthy and that offense is a pretty easy showing of why. It didn't matter if it was 2 TEs or elite WRs, but Josh (along with Brady of course) was able to get the most of out of the talent that they had and THAT is the job of the coaching staff.
