Agressive hybrids are fun for us fans to talk about, and they probably have the highest upside of any type of scheme. However you need to be a top level play caller like Lewis or Rex Ryan to consistently get results. Blitz timing, locations and matchups are critical. If cant observe the field, and see what to call when and where, you will get destroyed. We saw that first hand with Rob

Marv Lewis hybrids are very low floor/high ceiling to me

Nolan comes from that school. But Im not sure what his scheme these days. He was Baltimore's DC in between Lewis and Ryan. That was a long time ago

You need a ton of talent/coaching to pull it off like you said earlier.

Coaches need to be able to anticipate what the offense is going to do or they get roasted. They need to prepare their players for all kinds of eventualities. Simple does not cut it when surprise is key.

Then you need corners that can win at man. DT that can clog the run. Back 7 players that can blitz. Secondary players that can anticipate and drive on throws.

Jones is a priority with Nolan. Then we have corners. We have Brown, Chido, and Smith who can blitz. We need ballhawks particularly at S and DT that can anchor.

What is encouraging is our blitz success rate the past couple of years has been really good.

The DL has 3 players you can count on returning - Lawrence, Armstrong and Woods. Hill returns but not sure you can really count on him at all.

The rest are UFAs or cap related cuts(Crawford).
A ton of work needed to rebuild the DL.

The drafting of Hill was already a huge mistake but know looks 10 times worse. He was a Marinelli style DT and a reach due to be a lazy head case. They should have seen this coming and just drafted the no brainer safety that would fit fine in any scheme brought by whoever the next HC/ DC was. Hill likely won’t fit in the new defense and will likely never make an impact in Dallas. A complete waste. Not having Watt and Thornhill moving forward when they were complete no-brainer picks should be enough to get someone fired. I can’t stand that They fixate on who they will draft and take then no matter who falls to them unexpectedly. If they had half a clue putting their board together and just stuck to it, Watt and Thornhill would be starters on a vastly better defense. But then again, Garrett might have been extended so maybe it’s for the best.

I think the key could be blitzing LB's. I think back to Wades most successful year here calling defense (2009), and he made life hell blitzing James and Brooking. We were very successful that year at disrupting the pocket off the snap. I think something similar could he successfull in 2020. Smith and LVE were very potent on the blitz in 2018. If we can get more out of the DT position, that could be a recipe for success

I practically guarantee you Hill is stoned off his rocker, binge watching Scooby Doo with two bags of Doritos and FunYuns on his belly right this second.

I’m on officially onboard. I’ve watched the videos. Realized some coaches new fresh changes. He’s already in control of who he wants to bring in. I’m on board with Nolan. I see a bright upcoming with Moore. Now we just need a better ST coordinator lol.

Plus, he’s won more Superbowls than Garrett, so that should be enough to encourage me lol.

I watched the videos also. Love them all. Especially, McCarthy turned his barn into full-blown Analytics department. Reminds me of Silicon Valley startup.

I especially liked how he answered the fact about him "lacking football knowledge." He acknowledge the criticism and stated that is why he dedicated building his analytics department to figure out what works and what doesn't. He didn't blame anyone - not even pointed the finger on Rogers.

I think McCarthy learned from his mistakes and used that as an opportunity to improve and get better as a coach.

Not overly impressed with either hire but I'll hope for the best. I haven't seen a single good argument for why this is a good hire other than it's not Marinelli or some generalizations.

I've never seen so many clueless corners in my life.

Hard to believe he came from Sherman, Thomas, Maxwell and Chancellor to this

Dallas also had clueless corners since the days of Rob Ryan.

Note that Richard's first year non of our DBs were clueless and made plays. I think the coaching philosophy of past DCs set in and influenced the team's playing abilities.

@cmoney23 this one here.

That's impressive, no matter how you spin it.
ROFL... they spun that enough for everyone!!!
His defenses were horrible there and virtually everywhere else he's been.

12- 24th TOTD
13-27th TOTD
14- DEAD LAST - 32nd TOTD
15-17th TOTD (I'm actually not sure if this was him)

And the ST's coach, and RB coach, etc etc. Jerry is letting MM fill out his own staff. This isnt what a lot of people think just because Moore is staying.

Maybe McCarthy actually like's Moore. We haven't heard anything from Jerry about this which is a good thing.
