If we are going to continue to run the same Defensive Scheme, then getting some Beef on the interior is a must.
The scheme is predicated on the LB's swarming to the ball. As evident this year, they were non-factors a lot.
They were way less impactful due to failure to shed the Oline getting to the second level.

I don’t know much about Nolan but does he like fat guys in the middle? I sure hope so.

I agree, Malik and Woods had good years last year but this year were exposed. I need more I'd be ok with letting them both go. Also Crawford. I have to look to see what FA Dt 's are available but I've see enough from them. Hopefully 2nd round pick can get things started we need it bad. Definitely our Achilles heel. Must be addressed by Nolan first.

When he ran a 4-3 he had DTs pretty much like what Dallas has.

2012 Badineaux 300lbs, Peria Jerry 290lbs 5th ranked defense
2013 Babineaux 300lbs and Peters 325lbs 27th ranked
2014 Tyson Jackson 295lbs and Solai 340lbs 27th ranked

It's not going to be the same scheme. Not even remotely close. They could still use 1-2 beefier guys up front though.

A bunch of nobodies on the interior

Wasn’t that a rebuilding club that eventually all got canned?

BAL Michael Pierce
DET A'Shawn Robinson
CAR Vernon Butler

To name just a few (there's more)...if DAL wants to sign a big nasty they can easy in FA.

Doesn’t matter what scheme we run. DT’s are needed.

Boy, trading up for the sliding Vita Vea in the 2018 draft sure would look good right about now. lol

Don’t get me wrong, I like Vander Esch. I hope he recovers completely and goes back to making plays for us, but his neck issue is scary - and good LB’s are easier to find that dominant DT’s.

Ratliff was still not heavy enough, going against 320 guys will begin to take a toll on you after a while and that does not include being chipped or double teamed.
No he wasn't. But at the same time he gave us a strong 4 or 5 years. Very undeerrated Cowboy. Especially for where we drafted him. If I got a undersized guy that's who i'd want. I remember some plays he use to take out tight ends in the flat. Very athletic. If you are going to have a undersized DT let it be a guy like that. But those type of guys aren't out there anymore it seems.

I think any real DT is gonna come from FA
I suspect the first couple picks are gonna go to the secondary
There is a need and that’s likely to be where the quality is, especially at 17

Need to add a couple of DT's and possibly a DE if Quinn doesn't come back.

My choice would be sign a vet FA and then add a DT with the first pick and another on day 3.

i watched a short ten minute clip on his defense with the Falcons and it looks like they ran a lot of 4-3 and 3-4, but in general they had considerable more beef than us up front.

Falcons in '14 had 335 lbs DTs and 300 lbs DEs so, hopefully we get some good ol' beef up front for the first time since... well, Bill Parcells honestly.
