Mike McCarthy was a failure worse than Garrett in his last 2 seasons in Green Bay, causing him to be fired mid-season.

I don't understand the excitement of him being our new HC. Is it just because he studied film and has an analytics team? That might be new for him but it's not new for the Cowboys.

IMO, Mike McCarthy road the coattails of great QBs and it's a huge disappointment that he's now our coach. I hope he doesn't have much to do with our offense because without Rogers here to make him look good it's going to be ugly if we use his offense.

This is an interesting read...some really crappy play designs and standard/boring play designs:

Nice cherry picking

I'm not entralled with McCarthy but outside of Belichick or Payton, I would have a list of concerns for every possible candidate. College coach learning on the job, unproven coordinator, etc.

Overall, I'm just glad Garret and Marinelli are gone. I think that Jerry could have hired a sock puppet and you would have got a new coach bump. Hopefully MM has learned and will take off like Andy Reid in KC.

I’m not thrilled with the hiring but I’m okay with it. At least McCarthy has won a Super Bowl and been to the playoffs 10 times including 4 NFC title games. That’s 4 more title games than Garrett ever got to. McCarthy is clearly a step up.

Many reasonable points brought up that can give us hope. And after Garrett's disappointing tenure I certainly understand.

I think the odds are heavily stacked against McCarthy though. He's much more likely to be a Gibbs 2.0, Shanahan 2.0, Gruden 2.0, Mariucci 2.0...

Clearly Rogers was the reason for the Packers success not McCarthy. Just look at the Packers success this season...

It’s because he’s not the clapper! It’s also because he took the washed up old man with him! Not to mention, he relieved the idiot in the sky box of some of his duties. What’s not to get excited about! At least it’s not the same old status quo of the last 10+ years!

One Season was without Aaron Rodgers and the next one with Aaron Rodgers with one Knee.

I think 11-16 was pretty good for that.

Garrett was 4-12 without his starting QB.
true and the relationship soured, it happens.. hes got a solid core he to begin with and with some tweaks in the draft, FA, and schemes implemented to fit best, we are a win now, not a project team..for our situation coach like MM is the best fit..

Fans are trying to find flaws but we arent the first or the last two hire a retread, its happened for 100years of NFL football...

Doomsday, it's funny you mention Payton. Did you know that their records are eerily similar:

McCarthy = 125-77-2 (13 Years)
Payton = 131-77 (14 Years)

And, McCarthy has a better playoff record (10-8 vs. 8-7). This was quite the topic on a few of the Sports Talk Shows yesterday.

Sounds like you haven't been keeping up to what hes been doing this past year.
He has an overwhelming winning background that slumped in the end.
Injuries and a stale offense (and relationships) needed a year off to revamp and reenergize.

Nothing guaranteed, but hoping for the best.

Why are you only picking his last two years?

Cherry picking. Otherwise, their argument goes to waste. McCarthy was in the NFC championship just a few seasons ago. Did Jason ever get close? Nope.

I get it, McCarthy will not move the needle people. But to say he was a bigger failure than Garrett? Lmao. Sometimes this board is too much for my sanity at times.

Sometimes coaches stay out their welcome. Are we supposed to forget everything he did before that? Andy Reid didn't end in Philly very well.

Yea, realistically sometimes it's just time to move on. Can't say I'm over the moon excited for McCarthy, but I don't really hold his last few years against him. As recently as 2016 he was in the NFC CC game after beating Garrett, so that's enough to get me to at least acknowledge it's an upgrade.

Rodgers called MM’s offense archaic. Roman hasn’t led a quality defense in 15 years.

This was a comfort hire for Jerry. His comfort level is paramount to success these days.

I can’t either. It’s like someone lifted a rock covering a rat hole and they flooded out by the thousands.
I am seeing people i havent seen in last 2 years, but they are not new members! I think some of the haters are garrett fans, so naturally
they are going to bash MM like the op.
I dont care !! we have a new coach! Garrett is GONE !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I thought he would be here forever , I am still in shock that he really is gone!

I agree. I find it funny that it is claimed how McCarthy rode Rodgers coat tails, but the same could be said about Payton riding the coat tails of Brees. Payton has 1 SB that was a while back and yet with one of the best QB in the game.

It cant be as archaic and bad as what jg ran for years.
you know the offense where every defense knows what we are going to do pre snap.

This team is going to be very different next sept.

The Cowboys aren't going to attract a coach that was successful last season with his current team.

Given a choice between a successful coach that had a couple less successful years most recently , or a HC with no successful NFL experience, they chose wisely.

Unless our average QB gets more help from his overpaid, underachieving line, you’ll see more of the same.

Coaching wasn’t our problem on offense. It was on defense, so we hired a coach (Nolan) that’s maybe worse than what we had. Jerry moves.
