Jerry Jones and Stephen Jones did not enter Saturday's interview with Mike McCarthy with a preconception that he would become the Dallas Cowboys' coach less than 48 hours later, but a high-ranking source said McCarthy "blew the socks off" with his interview.

At that moment, the Joneses felt like they did not need to talk with other candidates after their first face-to-face meeting lasted more than 12 hours.

The high-level source said there was never a time Garrett was considered for a front-office role with the Cowboys. Garrett stated after the Washington game he wanted to continue to coach and he wanted it to be with Dallas. The high-ranking source said that had the Cowboys not been overwhelmed by McCarthy or any other candidates, there was a chance Garrett could have returned as coach.

Cowboys! in your faces.

There was a clip on NFLN showing how McCarthy spent all of last year prepping for his interviews and reviewing game film of teams with coaches on the hot-seat,,, he was well prepared.

Jerry: 'I'm going to wait around a few days, then decide if I should bring Jason back, with a five year extension. We'll sell it. We'll say we interviewed some hot shot college coaches, but ultimately we liked the experience Jason has gotten the last 10 years."

Stephen: "we aren't interviewing anybody?"

Jerry: "well, we tell 'em we took Riley's temperature. Urban didn't feel well. I'll say something clever about the guy at Baylor."

Stephen: "I'm thinking we should at least bring a few coaches in to interview. I'll call Ed Werder and tell him we are moving on from Jason."

Jerry: "do a Google search and get me a list of unemployed NFL coaches with previous HC experience. you know, we don't watch other NFL games"

Stephen: "Daddy, the 1st names that pop up are Marvin Lewis and Mike McCarthy."

Jerry: "well damn it boy, bring those sons of *****es in here to The Star!"

Marvin does ok, MM "blows their socks off."

Jerry: "dabgummit, we got ourself a real ball coach in this Mark McGlatchey. Call off the rest of the Google search Stephen, and get Rich Dalrymple down here immediately and tell him to draft a statement saying we "appreciate Jason and blah, blah...and tell Jerry Jr to fetch more Johnnie Walker Blue...we celebratin' tonight!!!"

If this was the case, then within that 12 hour interview Big Mike had to convince Booger that he would be comfortable with him as a HC because he said that was his major concern in changing HC's. So, I am wondering if Booger had to make any concessions about his involvement? Big Mike was in demand so there is that and he knew to target the Cowboys as #1 in assessing how he would interview for the job because Garrett was on his last year.

Imagine his disappointment and modifying his plan when they started off 3-0 but I wonder being an experienced coach if he viewed those wins like a lot of the fans did? He didn't just watch the Cowboys, he watched the teams they were playing as well.

On Sunday, Jan. 5, the Joneses were convinced McCarthy was their guy and they informed Garrett he would not be back in 2020, as Fox Sports first reported. Jones put out a lengthy statement thanking Garrett for his work and dedication after so many years as a player, assistant coach and head coach, dating to 1992.

-

So your owner was conducting a head coach search with retaining Garrett the back up plan.

He can't age fast enough for me.

Seriously. If it's true that there was any chance that he might bring Garrett back, we're so screwed.

Cowboys! in your faces.

I knew it!!! That's why it took so long to announce that Garrett was gone. They were still thinking of keeping him

McCarthy spent the night at Frisco's Omni Hotel, which is connected to Ford Center at The Star; not at Jerry Jones' Highland Park home.

Well, damn.

He wanted to go to Bass Pro Shop...

So just so I understand. They didn't fire Garrett right away because they felt if none of the interviews went well they'd just bring Garrett back? They didn't inform Garrett he was canned until after they realized McCarthy was their guy?

LOL. Geezus.

I thought it was a 50/50 proposition and based on this article it looks like it was exactly that. It’s probably a good thing that McCarthy had a strong interview.

Well, damn.

Yeah, I thought him and Jerry spooned and had a pillow fight with Stephen and Jerry JR at Jerrah’s abode.

Bummer...
