Of course McCarthy doesn't guarantee a Super Bowl win, but who would? There are pros and cons with him, which can be found in the fact he has a strong record, but was available to be hired. But, of course, there would be pros and cons with any coach we could have hired. There are no Bill Belichicks that were available. But McCarthy has won a Super Bowl and has the strong record as a head coach, so why not give it a chance? Some here are, but some are in a hurry to call it a horrible choice. Ultimately, there truly are positives and negatives, and we don't know how it will play out - and there really is no benefit to making a definitive decision now. It's just a reason to convince ourselves to be pissed off without even having the evidence to know if it is warranted.
Same with Nolan. A good DC background, but not a slam dunk sure thing - but who of all available choices would be? It could work out very well or not so much - Nolan's defenses have been on both ends of the spectrum. So why the rush to declare it one or the other right now?
To clarify, I'm not saying pros and cons shouldn't be discussed. It's what we do here, and is a legitimate thing to do. But being angry and predetermining an outcome at this point reduces the discussion to the point reason is replaced with soap opera.
