Yep... accountability!!

Thats the best part of this coaching hire. We finally can have accountability of this rosters talent. No more excuses the coaching staff is holding it back.

Drives me nuts when I hear fans or media say it's not the coaches fault if the player makes the same mistake over and over..lol, of course it is, players in New England don't make mistakes over and over, because they get benched the first time.

I can already hear the last few Garrett disciples on the board after our first loss under McCarthy crowing “I told you so...maybe Garrett wasn’t so bad afterall!”

I see them doing one of two things already.
  1. Either distancing themselves and trying to give a revisionist history version of their stance on Garrett.
  2. Simply hiding out and not saying much of anything.

I hope he will. Seems like JJ is going to let him.
Jerry might if we have immediate success. I doubt it.

But I suspect it will be more like with Bill where Jerry can’t help himself feeling inserting himself will help and of course if he grows impatient without better results.

It amazes me that after 25 years of this selfish arrogant egotistical owner/GM we believe he’s going just stand back and watch. lol

Was it hot air or were JG's hands tied by you-know-who? If it looks the same under McCarthy...we'll see.

What I do like is the fact that McCarthy does brings some accomplishments and credibility as a head coach. That should earn him a bigger voice in the room. I think past accolades buy a lot of credibility with Jerry. I think they did with Jimmy (and Barry to some extent), and then with Parcells as well, and that's why they had more pull, more stroke, and more authority within the organization. All but Switzer of course who wasn't looking for it and allowed a championship staff and players just do what they did.

Conversely, the others, like Gailey, Campo, Phillips, and especially Garrett, didn't have that same credibility, answer therefore listened to Jerry more than they told him what they wanted.

We heard the same thing under Garrett.

Clearly that was nothing but a talking point and hot air.

If all this is true under McCarthy it will be a pleasant change.
The caveat to that is will Jerry let him run the team without interference?

I didn’t say he won’t interject himself. If he lets MM lay down the law with these players and hand out a few butt kickings then we will have immediate success. MM and these players have to learn to look at JJ as the old crazy rich grandpa and humor him when he comes around. Problem is crazy grandpa writes the checks and let’s them do what they want.

lol at everybody acting like this approach is new. The key is whether or not Jerry will finally back off or if he's still going to undermine the coach's authority,,,, and good luck with stopping the media from being a huge distraction and making every Cowboy a superstar the minute he puts on the uniform.

One thing that Cobb knows for sure is that McCarthy will bring discipline and accountability to the Cowboys.

“He is big on discipline,” Cobb said. “He is big on accountability and making sure guys understand what we are doing. The biggest thing for him is knowing your assignment — making sure you are where you are supposed to be and when you are supposed to be there. And making sure you are not making mental errors during the course of the game.”

Former Texas star tight end Jermichael Finley, who played six years with the Packers before being forced to retire because of injury, echoed Cobb on McCarthy’s discipline and tough love.

He just hopes Jones lets McCarthy run the team and locker room without interference.

“Yes, that is one thing he is going to have to talk to Jerry about, ‘let me do this’,” Finley said, adding that McCarthy is “going to get on you. It’s going to feel like you are back in college. You screw up on a play, and he is going to get on you.”

But Finley also said that McCarthy’s tough discipline comes from a place of love.

“He is going to pat you on the back,” Finley said. “He is going to criticize you. He is going to tell you why he does it. He is a dad. I was a guy who didn’t have a father figure. Having a guy like that was comforting. You want to play for those guys.”

He’s gonna bring discipline..I hope Jerry let’s him!

LOL...….I hope Jerry lets him? What kind of nonsense is this? Garrett could have applied discipline whenever he wanted. He could have yelled at whomever he wanted to sat someone down whenever he wanted. Benched whomever he wanted.

The only thing Garrett probably had to get permission to do was cut somebody. Which is pathetic, but that doesn't stop discipline. And if the idiot Garrett couldn't get Jones to cut someone, then he was just another fall in line loser that we thought he was.

McCarthy gets the respect and autonomy because he deserves it and commands it.

Garrett was a puppet by nature. The fact that he hung around begging to remain head coach is proof of that.

LOL...……….Diehardblues is already predicting McCarthy will be fired if he doesn't win a SB in 2 years. And he is going around spreading rumors that no one was interested in McCarthy and he was nothing but a has been that retired.

Yet his hero Garrett got 10 years and was doing a great job and should have gotten more time.

For the sake of argument— let’s say MM is as soft on accountability as Garrett is and we do not improve in that area.

We definitely improve in some other areas on gameday:

1. Overall game management
2. More aggressive “go for the throat” play-calling
3. Current offensive and defensive philosophies that are working in the NFL
4. More red flag challenges (MM one of the highest rates of challenges, JG one of the lowest)
5. The GB “holding technique” that improves OL performance without getting penalized
6. Better special teams performance (huge upgrade there)
7. Dak has the chance to develop to the next level under MM’s tutelage
8. We will now be able to run a screen pass
9. Better use of personnel... guys like Pollard and Jarwin now may be better utilized
10. More turnovers. Nolan is an average DC, but his units do turn the ball over a lot more than what we have been seeing
11. Fewer self-inflicted wounds/mistakes

I hope MM changes the culture. I hope there is real discipline and accountability. But even if that doesn’t happen— we are going to be much happier on Sundays with his brand of football vs Garrett’s.

the key is when and I don't mean if, but when Jones steps in and over rides his authority then what happens......we know its going to happen. you either have the same discipline and accountability for the whole team but if a few players get a pass...then it just screws up the whole thing

I love Jaylon. I really do. Huge potential.

BUT, he’s the first one I want to see McCarthy rip into. Zero self-awareness

All JJ's coaches with the exception of Jimmy and Bill have something in common: They are yes men and that is hard for the players to take seriously.

We'll see.
If Mike can strike fear in the coaches, & players for their job security, while simultaneously causing Jerry to be uncomfortable, then maybe a culture of accountability can be realized.

I'll be happy if he can just stop Jaylon from celebrating while we're losing and stop Zeke from doing his idiotic "feed me" schtick.
