Would you be for or against Witten getting a spot on this staff?

I imagine most people will be like oh hell yes da Pope do it but would anyone have an issue with the Cowboys (Jerry) finding a role for him on this new staff to begin his grooming?
As a quality control coach yes. Start at the bottom, learn the trade

He could be a assistant to the TE coach for a year first. Let’s see if he can coach, get out there and teach the Y option.

No thanks to Witten.
He’s had several years to teach what he knows to the other TE’s.

I would be okay with him serving an internship if coaching is his aim, but not a spot on the actual staff.

I think Witten would be a GREAT coach in the NFL. However him being here only makes Jerry think he has his 20 year answer and would likely move things around to elevate him before he’s ready and cause more infighting and distrust.

Stop trying to find the hidden gem and just be happy with what you’ve got now. McCarthy can be the coach for 5-8 years, retire and then see what’s available.
I appreciate your opinion on this and I even respect it. I'm not advocating Witten get his coaching start on this coaching staff. I'm just saying he is qualified to be a coach in the NFL somewhere and he would do a good job.

I wouldn't have a problem with it but they better run it by The Big Man 1st.

Yes, leave it up to McCarthy. If he thinks it's a good idea, that's fine with me. But as an assistant, not a position coach. He might know how to play the role, but he hasn't been taught how to teach yet. Otherwise, no, thanks for everything.

I wouldn’t have an issue with him being TE coach, he is obviously qualified. Honestly I would question his motivation more than anything. Take some time off and be with your family, you’ve earned it.

Timing not right. the rest of the moves is win now. Even Moore, the continuity of keeping him at his position is to win now. Witten has a mark against him as a communicator so let another team take that risk. Catch him on his next contract if he proves to be good at coaching.

If that will keep him out of the broadcast booth, count me in. Do they have a spot for Booger McFarland?

Name the spot 1st.

as some kind of Tight end or offensive assistant, sure. As a leader of any position group, NO. It's one thing to take the Tight end coaches idea and tweak it but he's never been responcible for an entire groups performance, and shouldn't be. Anyone entering coaching needs time to develop the ability to teach these professionals. He might be a good coach one day but he needs to learn how by working with guys who are good coaches and learning how to develop talent.
