If this needs to be down to be cohesive, fine. Any issues we had with the O-line were mainly injuries.

I'm struggling with this one a bit. I understand the need to be comfortable with the O-line coach and I'm absolutely in step with the line of thought that the O-line was a shell of it's former self this past season.

I think Colombo needed to go for that reason but Marc was an *** kicker and Philbin seems to be more of a technician (from coaching standpoints). The last "technician" we brought in here (Alexander) completely screwed this group up. As bad as this line underachieved with Colombo, they were WAY worse under Alexander.
I dunno. If there is any position group on the team that could benefit from more technique and less *** kicking it’s the o-line. These guys are all veterans and all highly skilled. They are at the point of their careers where their physical gifts start to necessarily take a less important role than scheme and technique. You can’t just overpower people forever.

does anyone think that Fredrick, Martin and Smith need their *** kicked?

I’m fine with this simply because the o-line, along with QB, are the positions that will make or break McCarthy in Dallas and he needs to have someone in role that he understands inside and out and vice versa

on top of that, as mentioned, our I-line has struggled since Callahan left so a change is fine

Callahan is a master technician.

Would have loved to have Callahan back.

There's also a nugget on YouTube of Philbin showing
lineman how to hold and not get flagged.

IMO that's the key right there. GB has mastered the art of holding and never getting called for it. Bringing in his own OL coach will almost certainly result in an improvement to the OL when they learn how to game the system like GB does.

Or the refs will call it against us because we're not GB.

What's it going to be then, eh?

The Packers have a special way of blocking where they hold but don't get called. I've mentioned it here with links to few articles written about this technique.

This is a veteran group on the OL. If they don’t feel stimulated or motivated by a new approach or new voice at this point in their careers, after accomplishing jack-all as a team, then they need to begin switching them out anyway.

Alexander's blocking philosophy was wait and react. Not a good match for an aggressive run game and an antsy QB.
