Dak Prescott question looms large

You think Teddy is going to come here for a bargain basement contract? Is Teddy that much better than Dak long term?
What has Teddy done in 5 games that Dak cannot do?
It is this kind of thinking which hurts this team. The Eagles would have signed Dak as soon as he was eligible because they have a real GM who knows team building. I am not saying every one of his moves is perfect but we as an organization are always reactive?
No not at all he turned down a two-year deal to take one year with the Saints I was merely suggesting that we test the waters

Now that we can finally purge the organization for Jason Garrett's stench the biggest question that remains is what do we do with Dak?
Clearly he is not a top 5 QB, and that is ok with me, but I also cannot pay him as such even though him and his agent demand that be the case.

I also don't believe Jerry is willing to really consider an alternative. I am good with using the Franchise tag if Jerry goes out and makes another move at QB. I would not want to waste 30 million on one year if we end up signing him next off season to an even larger contract. The whole kick the can down the road with QB contracts does not seem like a prudent philosophy.

1) We bit the bullet and sign him to a Wentz type contract and move on. Do we think the Front office can find another QB? Can we find another Dak/ Minshew?

2) Franchise Dak? What does that buy us? Is it to find out if we he is the long term solution?

3) Move on from Dak right now. What options do we have?
Keenum/ Rivers/ T.Hill, Winston, Mariotta. How much do we trust our infrastructure to develop an existing qb?
Probably sign Dak for around $35 million average and sign Cooper for around $19 million average and Jones for around $8 million average. It is the NFL and a business and Jerry wants to win now, might not like it but it is going to happen.

They're going to pay him. But the terms of the payment probably depend on Cooper. If Dak signs, they'll franchise Coop, and vice versa. It would be in their best interest to sign Dak long term now rather than later.

i think it’s probably clear now that dak is going to get a long term deal and being willing to make him work was part of the hiring process for head coach.

and however low i am on dak at times i do think back to the post aikman, pre romo days and i’m fine with it even though it makes me a little nervous with the cap and how the team has drafted lately!

Do you just mean with his contract, or in general? And, why do you think so? If you don't mind me asking.
Strictly on the contract. I believe Dak believes he’s worth at least a Wentz contract, no less. He hasn’t held out. That’s the humble pie he’s had to stomach. I’m not making any claims as to whether or not his play warrants such a contract. I think he holds out on a tag.

You pay Dak ........ In a few years his contract will be a bargain.

I don't get how people don't realize this by now. The cap continues to rise. Every single season, a new QB becomes the new highest paid player ever. And then in a few years, their contract is normal.

I don’t know if it looks large.

Here’s the thing. They can franchise Dak. And see how he does under McCarthy. McCarthy can see how Dak does in his system.

If after one season, Dak isn’t playing well or McCarthy doesn’t want to keep him, they can draft a new QB and Big Mike is a great HC to have, if they need to develop a first round pick at QB.

We are in great shape QB wise. IMO. One way or another.

I just hope we don't pass on a quarterback that falls to us in the draft. I'd take Rosen as a backup, he's never played on a team who has a good offensive line like ours.

Draft a starter or backup? Because this QB class is very weak. Next year's draft will be a lot better.

I'd rather go the route we used to have. A veteran guy who knows the league and has started. Who can come in for a pinch and the team not go to crap. This is what Kitna and Orton were. We do not need another Brandon Weeden who had zero experience or idea how to play QB in this league. Our backups now are god awful and zero experience so we definitely need an upgrade there.

Mark Rypien won a super bowl. Come to think of it so did Trent Dilfer, Joe Flacco, Doug Williams, Brad Johnson, Nick Foles, and a wobbly arm Peyton Manning.
Not going to deny there have been some JAGs get to and win Super Bowls. Keep in mind, however, 3 of these quarterbacks had historically great defenses. More, apart from Peyton (again, great D) and Foles (I got nothin’. A truly great story there.) these quarterbacks won in a different kind of NFL.

I don't think he'll hold out, but he could. He sort of sealed his own fate by not signing the offer they gave him. He thought he could take us to the promise land with last season's team, and also get the big money that went with it but he fell short.

At least it might give the front office some negotiating power, otherwise his contract will kill the salary cap, as per usual with quarterbacks.

I wonder do people feel they are better without him?

I can’t imagine anyone does, they’ve gone to pot since they allowed him to walk and have sunk to picking #2 overall. It’s been nothing but bad since they allowed Cousins to walk. They’ve won only 10 games resulting in their head coach being fired. They signed Alex Smith who was a cheaper, lesser QB and his apparent career ending injury resulted in Washington having to use a first round pick on Haskins who none of the coaches wanted. Reports out of Washington were that it was the front office that wanted Haskins. Ron Rivera who inherited Haskins may not want him and Washington may end up having to use another high pick on a QB if they feel there’s one that’s better. The big knock on Cousins was that he couldn’t win playoff games and now the Commanders can’t even make it to the playoffs. The idiots on this board want us to do the same thing the Commanders did by allowing a good, young QB to walk who we’ve been competitive with and go with a cheaper, lesser option who’s already proven with multiple teams they’re not the answer.

Expect a big-name veteran QB Rivers, Brees type to show up in Big D in the off-season.
No way Dak gets a Wentz type deal not even close.

Sigh Phillip Rivers in Dallas now!

That man will have the pass blocking he needs, with the running game to match.

Dak has gotten better and IMO turned the corner this year. Mechanics were so different and better. Mechanics are about reps, so another off season should make them even more solid.

He was accurate this year, minus the last few weeks when his shoulder wasn’t right. 4th in QBR is hard to dispute, and unlike his rookie year when the running game really carried the load Dak was also 2nd in yards.

He is going to get paid.

Ah yes, the shoulder excuse while they threw over forty times a game and Dak was stiff arming guys with that same shoulder ‘not being right’.

Dak had stretched of bad football all throughout the season, despite his amazing pas protection. He floundered around against Miami for one half, on 9 incompletions and one interception, while Zeke basically rushed close to one hundred yards in a half and Commanders for about a half and was horrible against the Jets.

I wish they would have done it already. I would love to see how McCarthy has evaluated him

The evaluation we saw during the Press conference was a "made for TV" moment. He had to say exactly what was said about Dak. He's coached both Favre and Rodgers so he knows what Elite talent is at the Qb position. Time will tell what his Real evaluation is.

Anyone who believes that Dak is not getting paid needs to get their head checked. Furthermore, if those people did not see the quality of his play this year, then they were watching with blinders. He had bad throws at times, but all QBs do. Aaron the great had some atrocious games this year. I also think his shoulder and finger injuries in the last month of the season were holding him back. He played through the injuries, but I think he was limited compared to when he is healthy.
