Would you interview just two people for your job?

That's not the question. The question is what would Jerry do? and he showed us. Don't fool yourself, Jerry had this picked out for awhile now. It was just a matter of the final paperwork.
At least for the last year.

HC of a multi billion dollar team doesn't have a large candidate pool. Yes, two people is acceptable.

Yes we speculate often and it's up to each of us to buy into it. The problem is when these "insiders" speculate too many here take it like it's some kind of fact because an "insider" said it. Too many here don't get that these "insiders" say things often just to get clicks which helps their pay. That's why until I hear it or read it directly from the source of the issue I don't believe it. All to often these "insiders" have said or published things that weren't true or only partially true and end up having a completely different meaning.
.
I speculate that this post be the truth.

It's possible Jerry talked to several people in the know who encouraged him to hire McCarthy.

I'm reluctant to question what actually appears to be a wise decision, considering Jerry's past.

I thought about including this in one of the multiple threads on the new hire, but feel it would just get lost and ignored. But I'd like to present this question, if you were hiring for a job, any job, much less the head coach of the Dallas Cowboys. Would you interview just two people and then call it a day?
Yes I would and yes I have.

I can respect your opinion. It’s just that after 25 years for me it takes more than the initial burst of enthusiasm over a new hire to think that this guy is the solution to our problems. While Jerry Jones still sucks air , I’ll have to see it to believe it
I understand your point of view.

I am kind of excited about McCarthy but mostly happy we truly have hope now that Garrett is gone. I know we still have Jerry, but at least we don’t have Jerry and Garrett. Also, I think Jerry is going to take a step back, and allow McCarthy a little more control.

You may very well be right, that's why l said it was JMO. But this came together way too quick and it was obviously already decided McCarthy was going to be able to hire his own staff. That was not agreed to overnight...

People should stop making a big deal about McCarthy hiring his own staff. Except for 2 assistant coaches that Jones hired, the head coaches in Dallas under Jones have hired their own staff.

They wanted Mcarthy all along. The Lewis interview is for affirmative action reasons. They only interviewed Lewis because they had to.

Last year or longer. I'll bet he wanted him before this past season, but he took a breather.

If one of those people were the 2nd most successful person in the field over the last 13 years, yes.

They all have public records, and likely much personal interaction already. The interview is just about making sure expectations for the job match.

It's more like the draft. You go down your list, interview your guys from top to bottom, and pull the trigger if there's a fit on expectations and the interview doesn't raise a red flag.

I think they got their top candidate. They kept him overnight to avoid him interviewing elsewhere. Jerry knows how to make deals. Rank the candidates upfront, and pull the trigger. Don't hem haw and watch a guy sign elsewhere simply for lack of *deciding* on the rank order of who you wanted upfront.

McCarthy has just as good as a record as Sean Payton, and everyone on this forum is obsessed over him.

That's one way of looking at it. From everything I've read and heard, it seems clear now that they had a set of very specific requirements that they were looking for, and very few candidates would meet them. An experienced NFL coach to lead what they feel is a team ready to win now. And when you add in a former Super Bowl winning coach, the list of candidates drops to about 1.

But it's funny with the Joneses, they seem to narrow their focus so much that only one person ends up meeting the requirements, and it's that person or nothing. Take their actions with the safety position. For two years, it was essentially Earl Thomas or nothing. If they couldn't get Earl, what did they do? They kept what they had, because in their minds, there's no other options. They then did the same thing later with both Minkah Fitzpatrick and then Jamal Adams. If they couldn't trade for those guys, they did nothing. Add to that that there was actually talk of keeping Garrett if the other interviews didn't impress? That indicates to me a very small-minded view in decisionmaking.

jeez this should be buried on the 2nd page already..

I dint know the details as for sure fans or media dont know what goes on behind the scenes but I dont believe
Washington interview anyone but Rivera..hired first

I Believe NY and Carolina only interviewed 2 in person and hired their guys...

the only team making an extensive search is one that been mired in bad football decisions especially with coaches the last 10 yrs and have actually been turned down by a few. so CLE has work to do to get it right..

theres no blueprint ie right or wrong way the DC feel they had their guy and wanted to go ahead and get the deal done before he left.. its not bad decsions by them just because some of you think you know how they should have done it and its a mistake..

lets be happy Garetts finally gone,

and that MM has been giving full decsions making on staff and im betting even on player selection in the draft and FA which BTW with 22 FAs of our own mostly on defense and a decision to be made on Dak this is a perfect time for anew staff to come in and make small changes to roster on the side of the ball we need it most.

..not 100% control but we as fans should be happy that jerry and Stephen hired a coach they 100% trust and will like they did with Jimmy and Bill will let him begin his tenure with more freedom then they would have should they hire a young college coach or a first time head coach..

Mike is a great choice for our current roster win now talent and has experience to get it done if hes given some freedom and so far that looks like its happening..

so stop the Bsing on things we cant change..it happened already lets give it a chance..

Im looking forward to seeing how this all comes together..

Bet he was drooling over McCarthy for some time.

In NJ my Jets fans friends were disgusted that the Jets didn’t hire him last Year. I was all for an Urban Meyer hire because I saw him as potentially a Jimmy part 2. But now that its McCarthy I see it like a Parcells hire but with 1 HUGE difference in that he is being handed a very talented roster. I was rooting for this team to lose to Philthy because I firmly believed Jerry would NOT fire Jason Had they won. I never want to be in that position again where I feel the team losing is in their best interest.

Job Requirements are wish lists. You take the guy who best fills them. In this case, I think they got their top pick.

With the safeties, I think they were sold on Woods, and were only interested in other guys if they were a significant upgrade from Heath. Despite what many think, those guys don't grow on trees.

I do think that in the box safeties better than Heath do grow on trees. Having Heath split time at SS with an in the box SS made sense to me. Should have been an easy upgrade. Hard to understand them not pulling the trigger this year. We didn't play the rookie, we cut Frazier (didn't we, but brought him back and then IR?), and Thompson stunk it up.

Or maybe Frazier never got cut because of injuries to other guys, and was put on IR when he was likely going to be cut anyway.

Several opinions I hear from my friends are that players sabotaged the season to get rid of Garrett. I felt the same way after watching some of the plays that were just head shaking ridiculous. Makes sense. First time I have ever wanted us to lose was because of this past season.
