MM's coaching selection = Jimmy Johnson
MM's coaching selection = Jimmy Johnson
Is it just me or do the pictures of the coaches in the OP have a Sopranos thing going on?
As in all white?
Heck yeah he is!! Stomping a mud hole in what Garrett was able to get done.
The Rams punter Johnny Hekker passed the ball on fake punts more than any other punter in recent history. I wouldn't mind seeing our special teams trying a few trick plays now and then.IMO, the only thing that will really impact our progress is how Dak plays and how well we draft this year.. Obviously who we keep and who we lose will make have a huge impact, but who our special teams coach is??? cmon. Will the special teams coach make our punter actually kick the ball higher and deeper? Hell no. The only thing that will fix that is getting a different punter.
But what if Mike gets Zeke super involved in the passing game? We all know Zeke can catch & do it all.
I don't like the Nolan hire. At least in the past, he's ran some pretty blah defenses, and defenses in the NFL are having to change now to match the offenses.
Look at Mike Pettine's "amoeba" looks in Green Bay, Belichick schooling the league again with his zero blitzes, the Ravens essentially playing a base 5-man rush package, also looking a bit closer to home, we had Patricia and Zimmer strangle our run game with 6-man fronts lined straight-up over every gap on the LOS... there is some real-deal innovation going on in defenses around the league, and Nolan seems like the kind of guy who's just going to rush 4 and play the same basic coverages on the back end.
Simple can still work on defense, but if you are going to do that, you need to be fundamentally sound. Play your LBs deep Richard-style and give up a checkdown to the RB? Your linebackers had better fly up and stop him. If they can drop him for a 3 or 4 yard gain, you get the 2018 Dallas defense. If they whiff and give up 10 or 15 yards, you have the 2019 Dallas defense.
Anyway, Nolan hasn't coordinated a defense in the last 5 years, and wasn't very good when he did. To be frank, I'm not expecting either innovation nor drillmaster execution. I think it's going to be pretty similar to what we've watched the last four years. As long as Nolan has more than 2 plays in his playbook though, Vanilla Cover 1 and Vanilla Cover 3, I think we will at least tread water relative to Richard.
Tomsula..... fired after 1 season by niners
Fassel....uhm, according to wikipedia, he developer a punter and kicker
Nolan.....in his 3.5 years as head coach he avg about 4 wins
Im not saying these guys cant coach, im saying they will not be the reason we win or lose games. It is hilarious to me to see the excitement. Im all for excitement, but the real reason is because it is not JG. Its like the shiny new toy. All that excitement will be just like when Moore took over the offense. By week 8 or so, how great was the new toy working out?
Dak will be the reason we win or lose. We lost multiple games that were very close. 2 more plays in each game by dak, and we are probable 11-5 or 12-4.
Coaching matters more Monday-Saturday relative to when you’ll have an advantage. Every play call is designed to work on both sides. But it’s instilling the idea of discipline and telling Dak what to look for if the defense comes out in a certain look. It’s like teachers preparing students for a test.these guys spend all day, everyday watching film. Hell, I could go watch plays over and over of great offenses and copy them. None of these guys are reinventing the wheel. At some point it comes down to a lineman kicking the guys arse that is across from him and a QB that can make honey out of a pile of crap.
Did you watch the eagles game this last weekend? 3rd and 16 for Wilson, the play was called, the defense stuffed it.,.. there was nothing there and wilson took off for 18 yards and a first down. That aint some great play call.
I really can’t believe he’s getting to build his own staff
DC Nolan, ST Fassel, DL Tomsula. All guys with HC experience working units that need work & maybe more discipline
im curious to see who else he brings in
What is more important is that the coaching staff were assembled by Mike McCarthy. Not Jerry Jones but by Mike McCarthy.
That is the start of a new era, folks.
You'll be Happy to learn that was photoshopped to bloat him a bit.Dude does not look healthy at all.
