Tight Ends in the West Coast Offense

"Tight Ends are often the subject of mismatches in this offense if a slower linebacker or smaller safety is tasked with covering the Tight End. These Tight Ends MUST be able to function as a wide receiver when it comes to catching the ball and skillfully running routes."

Jarwin or we draft a 1st round TE? Please don't say Witten.

Who's says it's going to be his offense? We could be seeing boy-wonder's offense. We have no idea.

I'll be absolutely astounded if a TE isn't targeted in the upcoming 2020 draft. It's been a need for the last two years and promises to be even more so, in the likelihood that Witten is absent in the 2020 season.

hopefully Witten is gone for good as a player.

Drafting a TE in the first round, I will pass. Need defense.

I'd be disappointed if we fail to draft a TE in the upcoming draft, although, it's quite likely that the need for new prospects will be fairly numerous. With MM being somewhat in charge of incoming signees, it seems the need for a Witten replacement is in the here and now. I'm expecting an addition of another TE to replace Witten is either in our plans or will be pretty soon. We do need another one with both blocking and receiving skills. Of course, vet FA would be yet another source of filling that void, aside from the draft. Let's hope a solution materializes between now and training camp to bolster the west coast offense that is so likely to come to the Cowboys.

Ignore my Avi, but Eric Ebron would be an animal in this offense. He has balled the last two years and it doesn’t sound like Indy is looking to bring him back

Think Jarwin can be successful in McCarthy's offense.

Definitely think they draft another one at some point too. Shame Kmet blew up the boards so far.

Here's a list from Spotrac. I'm not seeing Doyle on it. He may have reupped in Indianapolis.

https://www.spotrac.com/nfl/free-agents/all/tight-end/

One name of note is Richard Rodgers. He played for McCarthy in Green Bay.

Isnt Rodgers that TE that had that HM catch a couple years back?

Forgot what game that was.

But yeah I wouldnt mind him only because MM would know how to use him best.

If Dallas still had the old coaching staff then forget about it.

On the surface I would say Jarwin is a great candidate for this, but there are other job qualifications that the team will have to decide if Jarwin is a fit for.

Witten, if he stays, should be a role player in certain sets and situations.

Here's a name to think about - Eric Ebron. A former Lions 1st round draft pick. He's coming off of a down, injury-plagued 2019, but his 2018 was off t charts. Depending on his asking price, he's as physically talented a TE as you could ask for.
No to Eric Ebron, he's known to be a butter fingers.

McCarthy didn't actually use the TE that much for long stretches of his time in Green Bay.

Part of that was probably because Jermichael Finley was made of glass though.

I hate hearing the so called West Coast offense. Sorta like the Tampa 2- over rated and obsolete. The schemes that flourish are the ones you tweak and make better. Or the ones you just make new as the Bears 46-Landry's flex, etc. One thing I hope the new coach doesn't do that Garrett did was play guys you know shouldn't be in there. Whether favoritism or just plain dumb moves. Guys like Williams, Witten, Heath to some extent early on. Get the best players on the field period.

why does it have to be a TE in the 1st round ? Even Witten was drafted in the 3rd round TE.
Not sure how's the TE position is looking this draft. If it's deep, sure we could find talent in the later rounds.

Last year OJ Howard wasn't on the market. Maybe we can make a deal with Tampa this off season. Imagine him in this offense

I like Trautman in round 3. He reminds me of Zach Ertz. Gets open often.

we should have drafted Mark Andrews a few years ago.

DT needs to be a FA...rookie DT rarely make a difference year 1.

Draft a TE in the 2nd or 3rd round. I like Jarwin, he has already exceeded expectations in his NFL career. However, I don't know if he can get much better than what we've seen so far. A good change-of-pace #2 TE
