How do you think the Cowboys should approach this season?

I think option #3 is the best approach to make the most of a year where this team needs to get it's feet under them to maximize their chances of success. The Cowboys have spent the last two decades and more trying to regain their days of glory. It will take a gradual approach and patience to arrive at a championship consistency and capability. A dramatic turnaround and restructuring will be the first order of business, beyond any question. Foolishly getting into a premature rush to get there is a good way to ensure that it doesn't happen. Stay the course and be smart about it.

Its option 1.

JJ believes the talent is there to win, and he brought MM in to get us to the SB. The cap is going up in the next CBA, so signing Dak and Amari now before the market is reset is wise.

MM is bringing in experienced coaches and the assumption is this team is ready-made to contend with better leadership and accountability.

Sign your star players, add some choice free agents, hit on your draft picks, and coach the team up and you have a decent shot at being a very disruptive team in the NFC next year.

I am curious how you guys think we should approach this season. I think there are a couple of different approaches we could take.

Option 1. Go for it now. Resign Amari, trade for Adams. Resign Dak (whatever it takes) Resign Cobb. Sign a mammoth DT. Resign Byron.

Pros: Shot at winning it all next year.

Cons very short window. (See Rams)

Option 2: Prudent run this year. Be selective about resignings. Sign Amari. Resign Dak. (Or franchise both). Sign value contracts. Pretty much stay the course we have been on the past 5 years.

Pros: Slight shot next year. And the following years.
Cons: Need coaching to get us over the hump. Same as before except better coaching and less cap to work with.

Option 3: If you build it they will come. Think longer term. Tag and trade Amari. Tag or sign Dak. Draft a QB somewhere in top 4 rounds to develop.

Let Byron Walk. Be judicious in free agency. Use draft picks wisely.

Pros: Team cap and talent level gets better and better. Cap stays healthy. When you really think you want to make a splash and go for it the cap is there to do it.

Cons: Might hamper your chance to win it all next year. But the window stays open indefinitely.

I think I would go for option #3 unless opportunities indicate that option one or two are better in a given instance.

Very good post, covers about everything that has been running through my mind, every different angle on how to approach an off season of total failure from the pre existing coaching staff, to now just where this team, this roster is at, motivated with a new, reformatted, implemented coaching staff in place.
The sky is the limit with this current roster with the right coaches in place, that's all its ever been, and time was more of the essence, another year of JG and all would have been lost.
Just think what this current coaching staff could have done with this team the past 2-3 years,, am I short selling?

When are people gonna realize this is a major rebuild????? I'd tear this down to the bone....recoup as many draft picks as I could (trade Zeke/trade Dak)....shed bad cap money...tank for Trevor Lawrence QB Clemson......and plan for the future.

This team is not a draft away from winning a Super Bowl....

It's rotten to the core....You got a lot of guys playing for themselves in this organization. Time to cut bait....clean out the cancers....And start fresh. It's the only way this is going to get fixed.
OMG if this team did that they would be a contender for the next 12+ years. The window has slammed shut for Dak he cant win anything with all the talent already on this team and if they sign him this team gonna lose so much talent because they cant afford to pay them. The downward spiral begins when Dak gets paid.

Well. We're going to have an entirely new coaching staff and 26 players will be UFA or RFA. We don't know what the status of LVE will be after his fusion surgery. And we have to sign Dak. Our LT has ankle and back issues. Our #1 WR is a question mark. The interior of the DL needs help as well as the secondary. Even our long snapper is getting long in the tooth and we have no kicker signed to a contract. ST is also in the tank.

If we knock the ball out of the park and get 2 immediate impact players in the draft, that is still a ton to deal with. So option 1 is out of the question.

So I'd say a form of option 2 is in the offing.

If we have a degree of success next season, it will be because we relied heavily on the coaching staff. We are not 1 draft away from a SB run. That much is clear.

Having said all that. It's still a year to year league. So we'll see.

Go Cowboys!!

The Cowboys should approach this season like a bull in a china shop. Hopefully, they leave as much carnage in their wake on the way to a SB victory in 2021.

Sign Amari and Jones. Let Dak walk if he wants more than $30M a season.

If so, sign Brady, Brees, or Rivers to a 2-year deal and draft a QB.

Resign all our offensive fa's-Dak, Coop, Cobb, Jarwin (keep the band together)
Start rebuilding entire defense. Find short-term band-aid solutions, while using the draft to find future starters

Brady and Brees are done
Rivers never won anything

Amari and Jones disappear in the biggest games. I’m not paying them 14-18 mill/year which is what they will ask

use their money to build a real team with great DTs and safety and TE

look at the playoff teams today, they all have these. Great number 1 WR and CB don’t win you anything

need to wake up and understand how great teams are built

Dak has enough talent to win and is a gamer
I agree he should not be paid >30

upgrade DT, S, TE and "run it back" with the same team

I want to see how talented this roster really is and how much of a difference the new coaching staff makes.
