That’s not realistic. We need a lot of things. Woods is fine. Heath is not under contract.

‘Fine’ does not cut it
defenses are built up the middle with great DL, MLB and safety play.
Just look at the teams in the playoffs today who have great defenses

Have to pay attention to basic winning football

I’m going to sign :

Chris Jones DT
Anthony Harris S
Devonte Campbell LB
Mike Daniels DL

And taking Julian Owkara and AJ Terrell in the draft.

I'd draft a DT in the 1st and a safety in the 2nd. With McCarty having input, I'm confident we'll find solid players. Younger and cheaper. We haven't drafted a DT early worth a crap since 1991. And a safety since 2002 or 1992.
Or trade the 1st and 4th round picks to get Adams from the jets

then grab your DT In the 2nd if you can’t find a DT that upgrades you without making you pay really stupid money

I have a gut feeling that Ashawn Robinson would be very good in the new defense, especially plugging the run. Draft Javon Kinlaw to play next to him and things are looking really good in the middle. Resign Collins as a rotational pass rusher to go along with Woods as backups and things are looking up.

Jones is a fine player though I worry about guys who had a huge year just in time for FA
But he’s gonna be expensive and would limit other signings
I’d certainly look at him though
Very disruptive

Teams win in this league with the caliber of players like Woods all the time. It’s called coaching. You can’t have “great” at every spot. It’s unrealistic. You look at your roster and you try to improve it the best as you possibly can. You need a whole safety and then you need some back ups.

If our guys would look for the football I’m coverage and tackle this unit would’ve been top 5 in the league last year. They don’t even do the “basic”.

It's no secret that the Cowboys could use a major upgrade at these two positions in particular.

This list is according to: https://nfltraderumors.co/top-25-2020-nfl-free-agents-list/

Defensive Tackles:
1.) DJ Reader (27)
2.) Javon Hargrave (27)
3.) Gerald McCoy (32)
4.) Ndamukong Suh (33)
5.) Andrew Billings (24)

Safeties:
1.) Justin Simmons (26)
2.) Anthony Harris (28)
3.) Devin McCourty (33)
4.) Ha Ha Clinton Dix (27)
5.) Tre Boston (28)

Think Dix is a good possibility.

I would take Haha Clinton Dix. Yes he may not have been spectacular. But he won't cost a lot and its better than Xavier Woods and Jeff Heath. Plus McCarthy drafted him. Then draft a Safety with a high round pick.

Rumor has it that Malcolm Jenkins wants a new deal. He's 32, but still a good player and a real leader on the field with a high football IQ. Would you do a one or two-year deal? His play hasn't diminished much, and he actually got better as the season went on. Draft a young safety and let him learn from a real pro.

Why is Tre Boston a free agent every year lol? Him and Zack Brown it feels like.
Both play pretty decent too. I wouldn't mind having both guys and give them 3 year deals.

I would pickup Billings, I think Dallas liked him coming out the draft. If I'm not mistaken he interviewed with Jerry and was brought in for a visit.

Harris and Boston are the two safeties I like

From this I'd really like to see DJ Reader, Jason Hargrave or Andrew Billings. I think that DJ Reader will be away out of our price range but would be a huge upgrade. Hargrave and Billings should be able to be picked up at a much more reasonable price and still have huge upside.

Justin Simmons or Anthony Harris would be my choices at safety but will likely be priced out of what we're looking to spend. The Broncos are really high on Simmons and I don't see Fangio letting him go.

I'm not sure he's a good player at this point in his career. He was apart of that crappy secondary and he too was struggling at times.

McCoy and Suh are towards the end of their careers. McCoy could only get a 1 year prove it contract and it doesn't sound like the panthers are going to try to resign him. If he came here the Cowboys would be the 3rd different team in 3 years. Suh the same thing except the Cowboys would be the 4th team in 4 years. Good players don't wander around like that. Teams lock up good players for longer than for 1 year prove it contracts.
