Can we afford to trade a 1 for Jamal Adams?

One first round pick for Adams would be a steal. However, the jets want a lot more for him and can't imagine giving up 2 or 3 picks when you have so many free agents.

I like Delpit. But if it’s just a one for Adams or a one for Delpit, give me Adams all day everyday
Also have to factor in you get 4 or 5 years of Delpit or a DT for cheap. I believe Adams has 3 years left but he’s already upset about his deal. I wouldn’t be upset about the deal but I’d wait and see what’s there. I’d rather trade a future pick than this years.

I don't think we can afford it financially, to trade a 1st rounder (which should be a cheap player giving us 5 years of good production) for a player who will want a massive 2nd contract very quickly. We already did that with Amari. And with Zeke and Dak and a bunch of other home-grown dudes having earned big extensions, we're really in need of an infusion of good draft picks playing for peanuts to balance it out. Our 1st rounder is our best chance at one of those, so trading it even to fill a hole just isn't that helpful. I'd rather they use it on a good safety who will give us 5 cheap seasons if the safety position is that much of a priority to them.

In Nolan’s presumptive hybrid 4-3 defense that is more pressure-based, Jamal Adams would be the perfect playmaking SS, with Woods the ballhawking FS. No doubt, if he’s still on the market, Jets will ask for our 1. But with the CB and DT talent available at 17, and likely losing Byron and Maliek, and also having to pay Adams soon, can we afford to trade? I doubt it, but I guess it also depends on free agency targets at S, CB, DT. Thoughts?
umm they wanted far more then a 1 rumor was 2 firsts or a 1st and two 2nds , the price was high and no team bit on it..

one fist and say a 3rd is fair but you cant sell out for player ie one piece that you cant say is the missing piece to get us to a sb.. Adams is good but is he a true elite superstar that will change our defense?

we need to drat the best defenders we can get and in the end if we havent found a S then go get Adams in atrade..

Here’s the problem with this scenario.

2015 - Jones Gone or big contract
2016 - Zeke. Already on a big contract
2017 - Taco. Already gone
2018 - LVE On Rookie deal but injured and long term future in doubt
2019 - Cooper Gone, franchised, or big deal

There’s your last 5 1st round picks and the only guy producing that will still on his rookie deal is LVE and there is even doubt about him and his future. A team utilizing its picks wisely should have 3 or 4 1st round picks playing and producing and still on their rookie deals at any one time. If Dallas trades for Adams and gives him a big deal, they will only have one. Adams is a great player and I’d love to have him but I don’t know if it’s feasible.

Ill say for 17 straight, I take that easily.

Its gets tougher of they want a package. I think a 1st and 4th would be the highest I go

You not only would give up a 1st round draft pick but then have to sign him to a huge contract extension. Sorry but draft a guy like Xavier McKinney in the 1st round and allow him to develop while on an affordable contract.

I wouldn’t now. I’d do a 2. I think first draft under McCarthy we need a first.

Really? Not saying Nelson won’t be a player in the league.

But you wouldn’t give up a 1 for an elite, proven, first team all pro player.

But you’d rather risk it for a guy who may or may not pan out

I get your logic. But come on now
We are not going to be able to get Adam's with one 1st. He'll cost much more than that. Plus with 30 contracts to redo we need all of the picks we can get our hands on. Because I guarantee you we are going to lose at least 8 out of that 30. So if the Cowboys love Adam's so much then just draft his clone and see what happens.

But I fully expect our first three picks to be defensive players. CB. DT. SS. in what ever order.

Exactly......especially if you can get a blue-chipper @ 17

the issue is 0 safeties in this draft worth pick 17

some good options day two so that’s where you need to look

and while Adams is way better than the safeties in this class Dallas won’t have the cap room to afford him

That's going to be a no. The only time giving up draft picks and dedicating more capital to a second contract makes any sense if you're a sniff away from being dominant. We aren't there.

So why give up draft assets and commit more money when you have more needs than that one guy is going to fill? Draft a player and pay? Let someone else take the second high dollar contract if you don't like what you have.

Very mediocre Safety draft IMO, especially at the top. Delpit is very good, but I dont see him as an elite prospect. McKinley who is probably #2, might not even be a first round prospect
