Signed by Cowboys Nussmeier to be named QB Coach

Doug Nussmeier is expected to be named quarterbacks coach on Mike McCarthy’s staff after serving as the tight ends coach in 2018-19 under Jason Garrett, according to sources. He will replace Jon Kitna, who helped oversee Dak Prescott’s career highs in passing yards and touchdowns last season. Nussmeier played quarterback in the NFL and had been offensive coordinator at Alabama, Michigan and Florida before joining the Cowboys. Nussmeier will be Prescott’s fourth quarterback coach in five seasons.

I think this may have to do with language and McCarthy's comfort level with the message he wants to his QB.

This is my feeling. I was fine moving on if McCarthy had a QB coach from previous days. But why not keep Kitna if going from previous staff?

Nuismeier is a lot more experienced than Kitna. TE coach was always an odd fit for an ex-QB who's an experienced QB coach

Ok now see this doesn't make sense unless to me. I was fine with moving on from Kitna but this guy isn't even a outside hire he was already here.

Im guessing McCarthy wanted the guy with more experience possibly.

He was, yes. But he is/was a QB coach. He is not a TE coach. So I’m sure McCarthy liked something about him to move him back to QB Coach. Look at his past, he’s a solid QB coach

He coached QBs and some OC from 2001-2017

I am not a Prescott fan by any means but I feel bad for Dak on this one

I think 105.3 alluded to there might have been problems between Kellen and Kitna. So maybe with Kellen coming back they had to move on from Kitna. Only logical explanation to me.

ben mcadoo has been te coach for McCarhy in GB...so he is also a name to watch.

If he’s not teaching what MM is then it’s a detriment. I like Kit too but a QB coach isn’t end all be all. I’d rather every coach be on the same page than feed Dak multiple instructions at once

I wanted to keep Kitna but I have a feeling McCarthy will be coaching Dak more than anyone. With his track record of Qbs underneath him, Montana, Favre, and Rodgers, I’ll trust him.
