I'm just a fan who enjoys sports entertainment. I don't get any more involved than watching the games.

But there is being cautiously optimistic and callously pessimistic and there are far too many people here that defer to the latter and it makes this place a total downer to visit sometimes.

Who said anything about taking out the person or using it as rule, though? That's an extreme being applied by fans here. Even MM himself has called it a tool. No one is talking about using computer algorithms to call football games. It's just another way for some people so spin things negatively.

This original post in this thread and the ensuing responses are a bit of a false equivalency. Just because you're skeptical about McCarthy's analytical chops doesn't mean that you're not willing to give him a shot or that you're pro-Garrett.

You can be skeptical about how sincere he was with respect to analytics and still want him to succeed.

Just as everyone agrees that JJ only wants to win his way, there is a faction of fans who have the same mentality...the only way this team can succeed is if it hires the coaches I agree with, brings in the players I agree with, runs the plays I believe will succeed but only on the down and distance that I want them run, etc. Some fans sitting on their couches truly believe they are NFL geniuses yet for some odd reason they are still sitting at home on their couches and GMing or coaching in the NFL.

I haven't seen one poster say McCarthy will fail. And even though its a good hire and Garrett was finally expunged, McCarthy hasn't done anything here.
