Should I Be Worried About GB's Success Right After McCarthy Is Fired?

That whole time we heard from Rodgers is being held back by McCarthy. Soon after he is fired, they are back in the NFC championship with a coach with no real experience. I don't pretend to know the ins and outs of their break up but the fact is, they are back to the top of the NFC right after he left.

And I was a big fan of the hire fyi.

Green bay invested in their defense for the first time in over a decade thats why they are where they are

Rodgers hasnt looked all world this season.....he just doesn’t turn the ball over but hes not 4 tds and 350 yards kinda guy this year

There are risks involved sure.

a couple of things though.

1. McCarthy’s recent struggles, other than last season, were during times where Rodgers was missing a bunch of games or playing hurt and limited.

2. The Packers went out and got a defense this past off season with a bunch of free agent pick ups.

It may be a sign that McCarthy isn’t all that. It may also just be what it is.

I’ll provide an example that may put your mind at ease.

The eagles last season with Andy Reid. They went 4-12.

the next season they went 10-6 and made the playoffs with Chip friggin Kelly as their head coach.

did that mean Andy wasn’t a good coach?

Obviously we will know a lot more when the season begins.

Many people were calling his scheme dated or stale. He couldn't get along with Rodgers, etc. I know Rodgers is a diva but LaFleur seems to be doing alright with Rodgers.

I think Big Mike just refused to change because he was so successful for many years. This is the same guy that was called an creative offensive mind when he was hired by GB, and was also considered a top offensive guy for years. I feel confident that he can be successful again now that he has time to reflect on his mistakes.

Most of you have alluded to it. GB has a defense and a running game now.

mccarthy wasn’t the GM...... hell he had Eddie Lacey at RB for a while and some not so great defenses.

guy still went to playoffs 9 of 13 seasons.

sign of a good coach to me is a coach that can get more with less. And I think MM did that in GB. Yeah he had an all world an.... but not much else at times

both bill jones and mike doocy had interviews with him tonight and they both asked about getting to the super bowl because this roster is so talented. He gave mike doocy a look like ...really? he didnt take the bait and actually had a good answer about all the work needing to get done including roster building.

Bill Jones and Mike Doocy are so lazy. they ask the same dumb questions all the time. They both thought this team was a championship team as good as the 90s teams.

Too easy to judge after 1 season.

Was Wade Phillips a better coach after taking the cowboys to 13-3 and a bye in 07 after Parcells went 9-7?

Different scenarios I get it but it shows that sometimes change is good for everyone. Things had ran there course in GB after 13 years.

Will Matt Lafleur be able to transition from a HOF QB to another HOF QB...win a super bowl and make the playoffs 9 out of 13 years?

That’s when you’ll get your answer.

Here's their wins against teams with a winning record this regular season:

Vikings
Chiefs (without Mahomes)

Post-season:
Seahawks (1 man show; Russel Wilson) <-- I think the Seahawks were the 2nd worst team in the playoffs behind the Eagles. Their defense is cheeks and all 3 of their running backs got hurt at the end of the season.

The Packers also added Z'Darius Smith, Preston smith, and Adrian Amos which completely changed their defense & Aaron Jones was their best offensive player in my opinion.

The Packers have an insanely easy schedule next year.

They also have Aaron Jones playing very well. Without going back and looking thats probably the best a RB has played for GB in the last 5 years.

I really don't want the 9ers winning another one, but I cant stand GB and their ****** bag qb. I hope the champion comes out of the AFC. Id love to see the Titans get one.

Their running game is much improved as well.

Well, one reason the GB running is improved is because the new head coach LaFleur has shown dedication to the ground game that Mac never did.

Another reason is that LaFleur featured Aaron Jones all season while McCarthy stubbornly started Ty Montgomery for 1/2 the 2018 season rather than Jones.

Mac's approach to the running game was one of bafflement for most Packer fans.

I've never been inclined to pull for Green Bay, whether they've fired McCarthy or not.

Regardless, since I'm a C'boys fan, I support MM in respect for that being the cause.

If you feel you owe your allegiance to Green Bay, perhaps you aren't a Cowboys fan.

Absolutely.

They fire the coach and they are 1 game from the Super Bowl? Ummm yeah that should be a cause for concern.

GB never invested in ANY Free Agents nor did they have a good running game or defense
Rodgers stays are dramatically WORSE without McCarthy ...and GB probably wont beat 49ers so Rodgers still wont have another ring....Team is deeper & better but QB play hasnt been as good
