whether 4-3 or 3-4, the Cowboys need difference makers among their starters, and Crawford is not/never been a difference maker.
and you mean Crawford is gonna take a vet minimum dollar to be a backup ?

I dunno anything about Scott Curley guy, but I am counting on Mike Nolan to make this defense very physical and tough to move the ball and capable of creating turnovers.
If we have yet a finesse oriented Packers defense ... that's the same ole.. same ole state of emergence and the ultimate failing of this team all over again .

Does the ref bias comes with it, bias for us that is? :muttley:

We ALREADY don’t get the OL calls! How many drives have been killed by iffy holding calls? Tripping? Conversely, GB has gotten away with crap for YEARS! Someone even posted a shot from their last game. In it, one guy was CLEARLY holding, another had a fistful of facemask...and NO FLAG!

Sounds like Clint Eastwood...A Fistful of Facemask.

Definitely curious on how they'll run the defense when it comes to defending the 12, 21, etc packages.
Will they run a hybrid between a 4-3/3-4?

They don't have the players for a 3-4 now but you have to think this year will be mostly 4-3 and some hybrid looks. Then if we start adding 3-4 players it will be the tell that the transition is coming.

Something tells me 3-4 and has been screaming 3-4 since McCarthy was announced. Cowboys scheduled what, 7 defensive lineman and 5 linebackers having expiring contracts this offseason.

I think Jerry has known he wanted to hire McCarthy for a few years but I got downvoted on /r/nfl for predicting the McCarthy hire over a year ago.

We shall see.

He accepted a backup role before, that isn't the issue. He has been wildly overpaid but he is only guy on the roster for the five years who has been, fans need to get over that.

The most likely scenario is what happened with Doug Free when his performance dropped off, they will reset his contract to whatever the cap charge is for cutting him (3 Million in this case). The team basically gets a free season from the player for the exact price it would take to cut him, and the player gets more than he would if he was a FA.

While @Risen Star is asleep...

"Scott McCurley and Jeff Blasko are reuniting with Mike McCarthy with the Dallas Cowboys after working on his staff in Green Bay, according to sources. McCurley is expected to have a role with the linebackers, while Blasko will serve as the assistant offensive line coach to Joe Philbin."

Mike McCarthy is in full control of assembling the staff. I like it regardless of the names.

Hmm, this is a rather interesting development.

Wasn't it previously mentioned that Haslett was going to be our LB coach? Or I assume now that was nothing more than a rumor.

Also, any updates on Drayton?

I think this one is a bit confusing, I think both these guys have been hired as assistants to the position coaches, not actual position coaches themselves.

Cut ALL of it. The sham of Tyrone Crawford needs to end, once and for all. Just like the sham of Jason Garrett as a head coach finally did.

Cut him. Save $8MM. Plow that money into Michael Bennett, who is a better.

Yep..

I want Jaylon running sideways and downhill. I do not want to see him having to change direction.

It will be interesting to see what the new coaches think of everyone. We’ve had the same schemes forever. Nolan might put on the tape of Jaylon and to good God man this dude is awful. Or he might say, I can break these tendencies and teach him how to play correctly.

I want to save the money, but I don't want to give it to Michael Bennett. I don't think he's coming back to Dallas this year. Maybe not anywhere.

I think Jaylon does have legitimate pass rush ability so regardless of what we think of him as a linebacker he does have value if you send him after the QB.

I do too. No QB can run from him.

I'd love a skit where a door slams in Jerry's face, and the sign on it reads "staff meeting."

Bennett is likely on a one year deal at this point in his career. If you chuck Crawford you need depth at DE. Even if you bring back Quinn, you only have him Lawrence, Armstrong and Quinn. You can't count on Gregory at this point.

Bennett is the ideal one year, vet type to bring back.

I agree. Sounds like coverage units on special teams would be best for him lol

I don't want him. Or his bad attitude. Or his constant offsides penalties. Few, if any of them were any good for this team so I'm ready to replace, not retain, as many as I can.

And if I'm paying 'depth', I'm not paying 'Bennett money' for it.
