The amount of criticism McCarthy is getting from posters on here before he coaches a single hour for the Cowboys is astounding.

There is one of two things going on with these people.
#1 - The had themselves thoroughly convinced that JJ was going to hire some high profile headline grabbing splashy coach that was going to come in here and turn the NFL on its side. They didn't get that with MM so they hate him for no other reason other than they were wrong.
or
#2 - They thrive on posting negative threads

#3 They actually liked Garrett

Anyone who watches the packers and pretends their success is somehow a negative indictment of Mike McCarthy is an idiot.

the Packers have the NFLs 18th ranked offense. The difference in GB is defense and that came from their new GM finally spending money on quality free agents.

Even if that were not the case, it would not make McCarthy getting a Super Bowl victory irrelevant.

Some of us act as if that's an easy accomplishment when there have only been 53 Super Bowl winners. Adjusting for repeats, that's 32 coaches since 1967 who have a Super Bowl victory.

Almost like saying Barry Switzer made Jimmy Johnson irrelevant after he won a SB two years later.

I

The Packers finally decided to spend money to help their defense. Ole Ted got sent to the pasture and they got a GM who didn't think FA was for the devil

I almost used that example, but decided not to since Johnson had won three Super Bowls before Switzer essentially took over a loaded team.

I think it's fair to doubt that McCarthy can repeat his GB success here for a variety of reasons. I don't think it's fair to diminish his Super Bowl victory.

This is Rodgers 5th Championship appearance.

I’d say this speaks more about how the Packers are probably more about #12 than anything else.

This year, it's all about Smith's and Jones. Adding those bookends on the DL is why they're in the NFCCG, Rodgers hasn't had his typical year.

Under Big Mike, he was a better stat QB but the team was not as good. I don't know who was responsible for those two DE's but that was the FA move of the year along with TEN picking up Tannehill.

jimmy won 2 not 3 switzer went to the NFCCG where his players got down 21-0 early and clawed their way into the game e but lost and the following year won a SB..you dont get credit for a sb win if you are no longer the coach or player..

but I agree on the rest you cant take away a sb for some ridiculous reasoning as this thread was started.. many SB wining coaches had great players or great QB..

MM is a SB winning coach, hes been to what 4 NFCCGs, those dont come easy ex see the DC since 1995 lol

McCarthy is such a dud. Who hires the guy that couldn’t win with that Green Bay team?

This greenbay team looks NOTHING like the team he coached roster wise. There are only 2 defensive starters left on that team from McCarthy last year. They went crazy in FA with their new GM this offseason. Nice reach though

Green Bay SB win will make the McCarthy's resume slightly irrelevant. He has to go minimum 11-5 NFC East champs and playoff run to the NFC championship game, otherwise he should be replaced by Kellen Moore the following season. Jerry has plenty of money to bite the bullet.
Maybe to you and 3 other guys. I doubt anyone else will care. They aren't even in the SB yet either.

Apparently, my brain glitzed on me on the number of Super Bowl victories. Yes, two for Johnson.

The only concern for me in this regard is I don't trust this front office to build that kind of defense for McCarthy. I think offensively we take a step forward. Defensively, I just don't know ... it could continue to hold us back.

If I remember correctly, the year GB won the Super Bowl under McCarthy, the Packers had a fairly opportunistic defense. Maybe that's what he is trying to recreate with Nolan.

I argue this point, that team is still heavily employed by players that he Coached or brought in... yes there Offense is doing different things but that defense and offense still have his players he drafted or signed on it.
