What are we doing at Backup QB

Maybe someone wants to check who MMs backups were during his time in GB.

Did he want a vet behind Rodgers, or was it a developmental type guy? The name Hundley rings a bell, not sure.

Anyway, when you have your guy and he is young, I see little point to having the same behind him. The backup should a be veteran capable of filling in for a few games so the season isn't completely lost if that happens. 1-2 games is huge in this league and you need to have better than Rush back there.
I looked that all up, after forgetting that MM was there during the whole Favre/Rodgers transition.

Matt Flynn was Rodgers primary backup, with Brett Hundley and Scott Tolzien later on.

So, one could probably assume that QB2 in Dallas next year will be Cooper Rush.

MM doesn't appear to see a value in having an experienced veteran backup.

Those guys are going somewhere to start and will want too much money. Think Fitzpatrick, Flacco, McCoy along those lines for backup.

You are probably right. But frankly, if I could get one of those cheaper than Dak, I'd do it. They should have the chip on their shoulder/I'll prove it mentality.

Deshon Kizer is another name in play. We'd have to trade with Chuckie, and I'm not sure he'd be more than a backup. He started his rookie year in Cleveland and put up rookie numbers.

Brett Hundley was the QB while Rodgers was out in 2017. He's coincidentally, the QB that Dak was compared to, when Dak was drafted.

Hundley is in Arizona.

I expect we'll draft another late round QB prospect or experienced bargain veteran.
the make up of that backup QB depending upon what new coaching staff expects and desires.

But Who i dont see anyone that it could be in this year draft. as for FA not sure either.

yeah and he is available this FA, but he sucked something special in AZ this year when he did play

I know all the focus has been on keeping Dak, tagging or signing, but a question that keep popping up in my mind is who is the back up? Most new Coaches like to bring in someone that knows their system. only 2 that MM has that are available are Brett Hundley and Joe Callahan of Callahan auto parts (tommy boy joke), and Neither of them have done anything... Hundley got MM fired and Callahan is a JAG. Orange Crush did nothing for me and most of you on this board. so do we spend a top 3 round Pic on backup when we have so many Holes to fill. im spinning my wheels linking about this. we know Dak is here for better or worse so who's his backup?

By the way this draft is top heavy in QB but nothing worth a lick after top 6-7 guys. at least 4 of them are worth taking in 1st or 2nd round and other 2 -3 in 3rd but literally all the tape i've watched on bottom guys are JUNK and should not even be drafted.

FA: are we really going to bring in a Marriota or Winston, that might challenge Daks ego same goes for a Broiles or others that were drafted high.

Give me some names that strike confidence we will have a decent backup in 2020.

Cooper Rush has been the backup for the past 3 seasons...

They should look to draft one in the mid rounds...

Or maybe A Rod didn't want a legitimate good player behind him and management sided with him?

That's a possibility also.

First off new coaches usually wait until after the mini camps to even start to think about their backup QB to see what they already have. Second why is it so important for the backup QB to have to already know the system when there are good chances he never see the field?

I don't see Cowboys using draft picks in the 1st 3 rds on QB. There are ample vets in FA which could be an option if they do not go that direction they will look for later rd project picks.

I'm no Hundley fan but that's a pretty small sample of work.

Brett Hundley is garbage, i would try and get Nate Sudfeld from Philly or Colt McCoy from Wash.

Hm do we spend 8 million on a backup QB or use it to pay a guy who can start on a depleted defense......what to do.

I’d take Mariota if we can get him relatively cheap. His style of play was just a bad match with Tennessee and what they were trying to do offensively. I think a change of scenery would do him good, and the Cowboys could be a good fit. I’m from Tennessee, so I’ve seen nearly all his games for the Titans. Plus he’s a good teammate who won’t get into any trouble off the field or be a distraction.

We have the back up QB starting. That's what we are doing.
