If you're going to sign/franchise Dak, the time to do it is now

They key is more consistency. Too many games we got off to slow starts and had to fight to come from behind - and it wasn't enough. I have to believe things can be done to help with that problem.

Did you watch the Seattle, GB game last night? Reminded me very much of some of the Cowboys games this year.

Seattle basically ran Lynch up the middle the entire first half trying to establish the run even though it wasn't working at all. Stayed stubborn. Conservative game plan and were down more than two TD's quickly. Finally in the 2nd half they abandoned the game plan and opened things up for Wilson. Wilson almost brought them back, but it was a too little, too late.

Reminded me of Garrett and the Cowboys in the games against better teams. Crawled up into a ball, Garrett style.

I think it was like 32 for 7 years. I would do exactly what he is doing. 32 for 4 years is Balsy, but allows him to control his own destiny and maximize his earnings.
4 years is good to me. Maybe 5

I would structure it so you if McCarthy is fired after 3 years you can re-evaluate the QB and have an out of you need it. If McCarthy fails, its probably time for a rebuild. 4 or 5 year deal makes Dak cuttable or even tradable if you are looking for a full rebuild.

Obviously you are hoping thats not that case and that Dak is 3 to 4 contract guy, but its always good to have those contingencies

There will always be some games like that, but it's hard to win consistently if there are too many of them.

No doubt there are some that have reservations about Dak. But the truth is that the kid is the real deal. Now if your looking for the next mahones then you will never like any QB we have.

The big issues with this team are the coaching, scheme, defense, special teams, culture.

We just took care of 3 of the 5 by getting rid of Garrett and hiring McCarthy. ST's shouldn't be that difficult. The focus should be on getting the defensive side of the ball to be a top unit in the NFL. We do that and this team will be a favorite.

I say franchise Dak and draft another QB. But stop fooling around with 5th round Mike Whites and draft someone in the first or second round. If McCarthy gets Dak to play better and they decide to keep him they can always use the other QB for a back up or even trade. If Dak wants to play hardball than let him walk.

The way I see the MM hire is that prior to his end in GB he was very similar to Payton (Almost identical records) consistent 10-12 win guy that gave you a legitimate shot at going all the way every year.

Being one of the more notable WCO's in the NFL, there should be alot he can add to Dak's game as a QB. You saw alot of improvement in Daks placement last year. Especially deep. McCarthy should be able to tighten up his short range timing based passing up alot. When it seemed like Dak had placement issues, it looked like it was in the 10-15 yard range. McCarthy will fix that

Dak is simply progressing like any good young QB. Moore brought the deep ball and some aggressiveness to the offense. Dak thrives in a wide open, hurry up, spread offense. Ironically, that is what McCarthy had in GB.

What MM will do is tailor the offense to suit Dak completely. It will be designed FOR Dak and his skill set.

My biggest issue with Dak is his movement within the pocket or lack there of. All the elite QB's shift around in the pocket and buy time by stepping up in the pocket and avoiding the rush. Dak has a weakness here. That is what I would focus on with Dak. And the added benefit to Dak stepping up into the pocket will be that he can then take off when things break down and pick up more yardage with his legs.

Watching Mahones, Rogers, Wilson, those guys are soo good at doing that. They actually set up blocks with the way they move around in the pocket. Amazing to watch.

DW & PM signing their deals benefits the cowboys more than DP this time around imo.

The other quarterbacks made it to the post season this year and DP did not.

My understanding was DP bet on himself this season and that bet fell flat.
DP is great at getting balls deep into the receiver

I figure if you're going to pay top dollar you should at least get quality merchandise. Looking at Dak's draft report we're getting Walmart returns. I like the kid, but he's not that much different from when he was drafted.

Not all his fault, but he's smart enough to read that report and see what he needs to improve and then go out and make that effort. He hasn't done that. He's just gone along with the program in place knowing Dallas has no one to turn to but him.

We ain't got a contract situation. We have a hostage situation here!
No one to blame but Jerry, hope for the best, we shall see.

Dak and his agent might not even want to sign until the Mahomes deal happens.

This is why a tag right now would be for the best.

I wasn't ready to sign Dak until I saw his deep accuracy improve. But they should have been able to see that in camp,
His deep ball numbers were actually very good he was top 5 in qb rating in deep throws. We just didn't attempt a lot of them in 2018. You guys just didn't want to believe the numbers

I’ll take 5 more years of leading the league in passing and leading the #1 offense.
And 8-8 Dak watching the playoffs from his couch , you would be happy with that, I would like more, hope that’s not the case but Dak is what he is, average at this point.

Regardless of what transpires with Dak, I'm hoping we do something about getting a backup QB capable of stepping in and doing well in the event Dak misses several games or more to injury.

JJ may surprise a few people. A lot of posters were absolutely convinced Dak would be signed before last season. Him being a FA was inconceiveable. But here we are, he's out of contract now.

Dak is staying.

The only surprise will be if he goes into camp on the tag instead of with a new contract.

If all NFL players not under contract for 2020 as of right now were allowed to hit free agency, Dak would be the #1 free agent...

LOL...…..average would be 16th in passing. Dak was #1 in passing.

Stupid doesn't win any argument.

Honestly, if the team is as married to Dak as they say, this should have been done LAST offseason. Too much vacationing going on in that Cowboys FO.

The numbers were good, but in 2018 we could watch Dak miss and miss again wide open WRs.
