Do you think it's bizarre that neither Dak or Amari are under contract?

What do you think is going on with contract negotiations with the starting Quarterback and best WR on this team?

I'll start with the obvious and say one of these players will be franchise tagged if a deal doesn't get done (there's a 98% chance they tag Dak over Cooper); however, I'm confused as to what's going on.

Are the Cowboys trying to wait for something to happen that I'm missing?

Are the agents and/or players 'holding out'?

Are the Cowboys willing to let one or both of these guys walk?

What do you think the new coaching staff wants to do? Obviously McCarthy has completely flipped the coaching staff, with the exception of Kellen Moore.

Who do you think is more important to the success of this team? I'm not completely sold that it's Dak, this offensive line is incredible when it comes to pass blocking and that has a lot to do with the success of a QB. According to reports - Amari was hurt (numerous lower body injuries) pretty much the whole season & still put up top tier numbers.

I like both of these guys as players and their character & I'd like to see what the new staff can do with them, but the fact that neither are under contract is just bizarre & a bit unsettling to me.

no they tried to strongarm Jerry for big deals they weren't worth, jerry didnt blink,,back to the table soon. we have options with FTs and transition tags possibly..

im glad really , works out for MM and the new staff to have input...

I don't think you can use both tags in the same year.

Each team only has one franchise tag (of either the exclusive or non-exclusive forms) and one transition tag per year. The transition tag can only be used if the team does not use a franchise tag.

Nope.

Both will be returning though.
I don't think it's a given that Cooper returns.

In fact I'd prefer they'd spend that money on defense.

Pretty much anyone can disappear on the road, appear apathetic overall, and drop key passes.

No need to pay 20M a year for that.

Theres always a problem diva WR out there if you need it. Cooper is the same problem in a different way.

You guys wanna pay him because he saved 2018? I dont. Buy a DT or a S.

And what did you think of MM's input on what he thought about Dak?

Looks like your worst fears are about to come true.:muttley:

Dak is the only QB I can remember that was universally accepted as the franchise QB, but still allowed to enter his lame duck year on his rookie contract anyway. That part is very bizarre, especially when the Joneses have repeatedly said since this time last year, “We need to get that contract done, Dak is first on the agenda, Dak’s deal is imminent....” and then nothing.

That's true, but because its the last year of the collective bargaining agreement franchises can use both tags in the final year provided a new deal isn't struck before the start of the year.

Teams can use both this year because it’s the final year of the CBA. I don’t think that’s their plan though.

There's a good chance that the only reason for the delays is that Jerry wants the attention on Dallas.

He's always doing things in a way that keeps people talking as long as possible, most recently it was the week long firing of JG.

Dak should receive $1 million more per year than Goff and Wince got simply because Dak has put up better numbers than them.

Dak will be

Amari will want to be overpaid
He is a good WR but cannot turn the tide like a true #1

As I noted earlier he is also the only QB I can remember having to state on multiple occasions that he won’t be taking any kind of team friendly deal. I wonder if those words will ever come out of Pat Mahomes mouth?

Gallop coming on like a house on fire may help this decision along one way or the other and like other people have said McCarthy is probably still evaluating

Not at all. If I were Dak or Amari I want to be tagged and wait to sign a long term contract under the new CBA
