I think it was very telling MM not committing to def scheme

I wanted our future new DC to run more of a hybrid scheme. A scheme can adapt to specific opponents strengths and weaknesses. Under Rod Marinelli, it wasn't opponent specific, but rather a simple scheme in which execution was paramount. Very conservative, bend don't break defense, that forces teams to drive the entire field.

An interesting first hire was made by MM in adding Mike Nolan to become the team's new DC. A well established, experienced hard nose defense coach who prefers the 3-4 alignment, although he has some experience in the 4-3 as well as an assistant. During MM's run with Green Bay, his defense coaches ran the 3-4 alignment. When we heard MM not commit to a defensive scheme and the fact that the defense has many in house fa's, this maybe the perfect time to make the switch. Certainly even if they do make the transition, there will be some 4-3 concepts within his scheme.

Didn’t we switch to the 3-4 under Parcells and we couldn’t wait to get rid of it because our personnel weren’t right?

K'lavon Chaisson would be a good pick for a hybrid defense imo.

I think he has some high upside too.

I agree..BUT WHAT WE NEED IS SOMEONE VERSATILE ENOUGH THAT CAN COME IN NOW AND MAKE US BETTER.

Mike said the base front will remain a 4-3 this year but they will utilize a "multiple" front variation.

Just draft the best defensive players and let the coaches put them in the best positions to excel.

No doubt you will see variations and some 3-4 as well but they are not making a wholesale attempt to have a 3-4 base this year.

There’s a bunch of them in FA at the moment. It’s full of NT’s, 3-4 DE’s and OLB’s.
They all suck.

3-4 is a garbage defense in today's NFL, and you're predominantly in nickel anyways.
