How can one ridicule his boss in front of the world and expect to be honored by him?

Its not a Jerry Jones personal ROH. His personal feelings should be irrelevant which is why the national story is how Jimmy's HOF induction makes Jerry look like a petty grudge holder. And the "ridicule" went both ways.

Jerry didnt earn his HOF induction, it only happened because of Jimmy Johnson. If I was Jimmy I wouldn't want to be in the Ring of Honor. Who cares?
Jerry has been a blubbering fool for 31 years since he bought the team. He made one smart decision during that time and that was to hire Jimmy. The one move has carried him to all his success.
Our idiot owner fired a back to back SB winning head coach because he wasn't kissing up to him. Talk about cutting your nose off despite your face!!!! To this day that move still boils my blood.

Yep!
We were on our way to 3 SB in a row.
Apparently 4 in a row was there for the taking.

I always understood why Jimmy hadn’t been inducted because of his brief tenure. But when you throw in his 4 years at Miami it’s only one season short of Maddens 10 year career at Oakland who only won one Super Bowl.

The HOF wants the best of the best of each era. And in the 90’s no HC made a bigger IMPACT than Jimmy. And why he belongs.

The great aspect about the HOF is not everyone gets in after their initial years of eligibility. It can come often decades later and unfortunately even posthumously which doesn’t lessen its value.

Brief tenure didn't keep Charles Haley out.

Jerry might have had a case for putting in only lifelong Cowboys who didn’t run out the door but he threw it out the window by putting in Haley...
Of course, Emmitt Smith and Larry Allen didn't spend their entire careers as Cowboys, but they were originally Cowboys and spent far and away the bulk of their careers as Cowboys. Neither did Tex Schramm or Tom Landry, although Landry was never head coach anywhere else.

Jimmy Johnson earned his way into the Pro Football Hall of Fame.

Jimmy Johnson ALSO earned his exclusion from the Cowboys Ring of Honor.

It is possible for BOTH of the above statements to be true.

Easy earn without doing anything outside 2 SB's in Dallas.

True, but Emmitt was released... I’m sure he would have happily continued indefinitely as a washed up back if they let him. Jimmy ran out the door... and it wasn’t like he was here a long time in the first place.

They actually wanted to keep Emmitt, but Emmitt didn't want to stay because they wouldn't guarantee he would keep the starting job and get the bulk of the carries. I'm not sure that he was released, I think his contract just expired.

Wha?

The ROH was there before Jerry Jones and it will be there after Jerry Jones. He is merely its temporary custodian. Jimmy Johnson's contribution to the history of the Dallas Cowboys is not in dispute and his relationship with the custodian shouldn't be a factor.

Temporary custodian?
He literally OWNS the Dallas Cowboys.
Right or wrong he can put whoever he wants in the ROH.

And before him, Bum Bright and Clint Murchinson made those decisions. Jerry didn't invent the ROH. He is LITERALLY a temporary custodian b/c he can't live forever. When he's gone, somebody else get to make the choices.

Yea, so either Jerry puts him in before he dies, or someone else puts him in after Jerry dies.

Doesn’t change the fact that right now Jerry is the owner, and if he doesn’t want Jimmy in (regardless of the reasons), Jimmy won’t be in.

It is what it is.

Reminds me of the Buffalo Bills. Ralph Wilson kept Lou Saban out of their wall of fame for petty reasons. He was finally put in after Wilson died. Of course Saban was dead by then too.

When I read atlantacowboy's post I thought it was a good take on the situation, but after reading what Proximo wrote, I have to agree with him. Ultimately Jerry isn't just the custodian of the ROH, he is the owner of it. It goes with being the owner of the team. When someone else becomes the team owner they can do with the ROH as they please, but for now it belongs to Jerry.

Nobody is debating who makes the ROH decisions.

Yep .. Which unfortunately really lessens its value.

This sounds like the “Boss is always right “ argument or the old golden rule adage, “He who has the gold rules”. Just wrong.
I may have misread Jumbos intention but I think he meant that Jimmy exclusion in the ROH is actually more of a testament to Jerry’s agendas than Jimmy’s validation.

I agree with this, but Jimmy's only occurred because of Jerry. Neither of these guys would be in the HOF without the other....that is undeniable since Jerry has stunk it up since Jimmy, and Jimmy stunk it up in Miami without Jerry.
