Quality interior DT rushers just litter the playoff rosters

I am OK with Collins coming back as long as it's a reasonable contract. Don't overpay him simply because you drafted him.

I am really curious to see how Nolan and company approach DL this offseason. The roster is light at DT, they have some real questions at DE in terms of FAs, etc.

Can Tomsula get anything out of Hill?

TENN: Jurrell Casey, one of the best.
KC: Chris Jones, one of the best
SF: DeForest Buckner, one of the best
GB: Kenny Clark, one of the best

And the rest of their rosters are just full of quality DT's/3-4 DE's. It's just so hard to stop opposing QB's w/o interior pocket push. Our JAG's are not getting the job done. Fix it, Jerry.

Our quality defensive ends would have been nice to take advantage of, had we had a capable qb that could keep us in games long enough to get to them......same thing with our capable running back and capable offensive line we could never get to for meaningful plays.

cowboys need a qb and a hole clogging defensive tackle to keep our pretty and soft lb’s jerseys clean. Until these things happen, expect results just like this year (give or take a game) and I don’t care who the coach is.

Collins is ok...…...but ONLY when he has a real HOG at the 1T. He gets pushed back so much in the run game. 1-trick pony at this stage in his career.

Hill will probably benefit from having coaches on the same page. Hopefully, they leave him at 3T and quit trying to teach him to play at 1T. Position flex sucks. I believe if we had left Taco at DE and quit trying to make him play 3T too, he'd still be here.

2 (yes TWO) starters at DT

Assuming we carry 5 DTs (we may only carry 4)....................

I could see Woods back as a backup 1T. Hill is probably back simply because we used a 2nd round pick on him. Covington is probably a cast off. Collins, maybe back, if the contract is reasonable.

I'd like to see them go grab a Shelton or someone like that in FA. A real run plugger as the starting 1T. Then look to the draft for an athletic DT. Collins can start, for now, next to Shelton and then you can bring the rookie DT along a bit early. And if you get anything out of Hill, it's a bonus. I am pretty much assuming he's a lost cause at this point.

They can't simply go Marinelli here and think they are OK and can nickle and dime the DT spot.

Agree with this
We need a couple of difference makers at DT

Or quality QBs ie Elite types in Rogers and Mahomes..a great rb in Henry and the 3 headed rb system to go with sanders and Kittle in Sanfran..

there are more reasons then defensive line these TEAMS are in.. thats not recipe for success and BTW the KC chiefs have up 24 points in one qtr, not sure thats agreat argument, they are not known for defense..i get your point but they are playing because they have great team, thats how you get to a title game..

3 of the four remaining are NEW this season, not like it was instant..

if it were that simples get a great fatty at NT , the entire league would do it and have 3 of them LOL

but yes we need some better DL thats for sure and a safety , CB, TE , etc etc
we were 808 because of a lot of holes and mistakes to fix.. its not like one DL changes our entire season...

You, my good sir, have not been paying attention. KC changed D's along w/ changing DC's, and had the best D in the NFL down the stretch. They are now in the convo of having the best D in the NFL.

You completely missed the vein of this thread. No one said it was JUST DL that was needed. No one said all we need is a big fatty. It's like your arguing against the wind!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

And you are completely wrong. A pocket collapsing DL is one of the major recipes for success. W/o it, you are much less likely to win. Of course the QB is the most important piece, that's stating the obvious.

A topnotch DT in the middle of our D would've led to 2-4 more wins. It would most definitely have changed our season. How in the world did you miss our craptastic DLine making Trubisky look all world?

Jerry doesn't believe in paying DT's and Safeties. That's just a fact so we are getting any good ones here in Dallas.
Keep looking for some UDFA's at the cheap.

You rate players by the Pro Bowl? No joke?

Maryland wasn't that great. Period. By virtually any measurement aside from the fact that he was surrounded by stars. Sacks? 2-4 per year. Disruption? He was nothing compared to Leon Lett. And yes, only 1 pro bowl for a #1 pick...was disappointing. He didn't deserve more.

I like that he was drama-free, lunch pail toting guy who played with premium effort. I don't think he squandered his talent, just didn't have it in spades.

Bingo. Jerry only cares about the positions that sell jerseys.

Maryland was a 10 year starter and he made a pro bowl. He was solid and better than anyone on the current roster. Leon Lett was a freak of nature. HOF talent. You don't have to disparage a guy who was a stalwart on 3 super bowl champs to make a point.

I remember a bill Parcells interview close to a decade ago talking about the importance of interior pass rushers and the enormous advantage it gives you. I believe the discussion was around Ndamucan Suh, then spoke about laroi Glover and how even undersized and out of position in the 3-4 he made a better impact than the stat sheet suggested. He said that everyone was looking for the edge guy, but the future of the nfl was the interior player, and was always one of the most important position in his defenses.

They are the closest player to the quarterback at the snap of the ball, eliminate the ability for a quarterback to step up in the pocket, and if they can draw a double team it requires the offense to single up on the DEs or keep the TE in to block.

The fact the position has been neglected for so long in dallas is an embarrassment.

sorry eye test says no...they score a lot because many times they have too..i pay attention enough to see them give up 24points in the first qtr of the last game, 31 over all.. thats not championship defense thats championship offense..

so as I was saying it takes more then a DT to make the sb and KC is the Mahomes show not the stalwart defense...they are an offensive team as of now..are they imporved m sure but people with eyes see not that great they wernt from bad to average..

now back to the Boys I can care less about others..

Defense wins championships. And like Kris Richard said, " It all starts upfront."

IMO. We need two guys that are 6'4" and 300 pounds playing DT for us.
