But people were clamoring to get those people. Who was desperate to get Jimmy up from the college ranks? Jerry did things differently than any other team and it payed off. He was also willing to spend the money Jimmy needed to build the roster.
I'm not saying Jerry deserves most of the credit...or even half...but he certainly deserves a decent share, and even if not, most coaches would be gracious enough to give credit anyway.

The 49ers considered Johnson as a potential replacement for Bill Walsh.

Ironically enough, the Cowboys, led by Tex Schramm, were interested in having Johnson come on as Landry's defensive coordinator and be the successor in waiting. They went as far as to have Johnson sit in their box for Super Bowl XXIII (Niners vs. Bengals).

Interesting. I'd never heard that before. Is that something more locally known?

Not when he's out in the public taking credit for the Walker trade, bringing Arabian princes to the sanctity of the locker room, just generally not knowing his place. You didnt see Jimmy trying to do owners stuff did you? You didnt see Kraft bickering with Bill over credit after their second super bowl, that's why the have 6.

By the way Jerry was still doing things different than other owners for the last 23 years, how'd that work out for him and us?

He's the owner, his "place" is wherever he wants it to be. If you owned a business, would you want someone telling you where you could go and with whom? Did Jimmy ever privately and respectfully ask Jerry not to do that?

Kraft and Bill weren't college friends before Kraft hired him, and Kraft just wants to own the team. He doesn't want to actually be a part of it. Jerry had a dream of building a team, and being part of the process (forgive the "p" word) and I'm sure in his eyes, Jimmy was trying to take that away from him.

There was also this situation because it was Dallas and you'd need to live there to understand just out how of hand it can get. Booger fires Landry and catches all the heat and Johnson just goes about his business and the media is starting to fall in love with Johnson. Johnson gets the media to love him and they tolerate Booger because they know he's trying to use them. Emmitt holds out and according to legend, after the second loss to open the season and the death threats against Booger, Johnson get's involved and gets the deal done. Johnson calls into the talk show with the "and you can print that in 3" letters and the legend is established. Johnson was the second most talked about person at local churches, losing a close one to Jesus. And Booger is the guy that fired Landry and wouldn't get Emmitt in without Johnson getting involved. Don't know if that's true but that is the legend.

Couple that with Booger was not welcomed to Dallas with open arms and moved into the ritzy area known as Highland Park, Landry's city. I am not sure that Booger was seeking credit as much as acceptance and relief and Johnson was the star, he could do no wrong. Acknowledging Booger as at least part of it and letting him out of the shade would have been sufficient but I think Johnson had just had enough of Booger and a crummy lake for an ocean. It all worked just as he wanted.

And to top it all off. The Cowboys lose a game that we're all convinced they would have won with Johnson and won 4 in a row and been the GOAT and that 3rd one is still considered won with Johnson's team. And the media still loves him in the Metroplex. They tolerate Booger because they have to but still make fun of him but Jimmy was the second coming to Dallas.

Sports is different than regular business, for instance if your boss called you a series of 4 letter words then he'd be fired on the spot. It happens every day on the practice field. It's just different.
The problem for jerry is that the public gave the credit to the people that usually gets the credit, the players and coaches. He didn't even get the usual credit for a gm due to the fact that Jimmy was the one that knew the college players and used that to his advantage. What did Jerry know with just coming out of the oil fields? Nothing.

Jerry tries to rewrite history instead of making new history without jimmy.

Petty?

I said last night he looks like an idiot.

I'm sticking with that.

However one stirs the pot, Jerry was the owner and one, Jimmy, just doesn't throw insult while grabbing chest medals as well.

I'm glad that Jimmy made it on merit while he worked for Jerry Jones.

Ultimately it was Jerry’s fault for letting his ego become larger than what was best for Cowboys Football.
Jimmy's ego was just as big, so why isn't it his fault?......also, there's still the fact that Jimmy wasn't planning to stick around anyway.

And deservedly so. It was Jimmys swagger and ego which was the driving force to that team. It was Jerry’s job to provide him whatever tools needed and stay the hell out of the way.

it was natural for the media and fans to embrace Jimmy placing him on a pedestal. Jerry’s ego just wouldn’t allow someone else to be the face of his franchise. Jerry’s ego robbed us of probably 4 straight and maybe more.

This the result now 25 years later. Screw Jerry!!

Because it was his ego and swagger that was the driving force behind our success.

It should have been Jerry’s job to cultivate that not challenge or feel threatened by it because ultimately it would benefit him.

But he simply couldn’t allow anyone to be bigger than him or the face of franchise.

And why winning hasn’t been the priority since unless he’s the guy. Screw him!!!

Jimmy wasn’t planning leaving then. Another lame excuse.
