The majority of golf tournaments are between Feb and Aug...

He has attempted to qualify for some Pro Tournaments. The chance of him making the cut all the way to Sunday is near zero in a Pro Tournament...

It's a problem CBS was hoping it wouldn't have to deal with. But Tony Romo's success in the first round of the Safeway Open has cast serious doubt on whether he'll be on the call this weekend.

The former Dallas Cowboys quarterback who has transitioned into the network's lead color commentator would miss Sunday's Minnesota Vikings-Chicago Bears game, which he's set to call with play-by-play partner Jim Nantz, if he makes the cut Friday.

He didn't make the cut but he was close.

The other issue is Nantz. He and Romo have been friends for a long time and he's responsible for getting him on at CBS. If the money is close, I can't se him going to ESPN when his bud was instrumental in getting Sims out and Romo in.

Tony Romo

All played for the Cowboys and all went on to be top color analysts for different networks. If you can survive several years as the Dallas QB, then you can pretty much do anything you want. Staubach's broadcasting career really didn't go anywhere, but he did build a very successful and profitable real estate business.

That is fanspeak. Nothing wrong with it but it dismissed how the actual people vote individuals into the Pro Football Hall of Fame.

Annually, the Board of Selectors argues the merits of inducting individuals as players, coaches or contributors. Scratch Romo’s entry as a coach.

The Board’s track record is literally littered with players with notable statistics and no league awards. Romo has a significantly steep uphill climb to make into serious scheduled debates between Selectors.

Romo may have begun a resume that will eventually appease the Board’s criteria as a contributor. However, it will take years (likely decades) of contribution in broadcasting, and possibly more media ventures, to reach the Selector’s standards of electability.

As always, history has a way of giving insight into the present and the future. Pat Summerall played in the NFL. albeit as a placekicker. His career includes playing on an NFL championship team. Summerall was one of best NFL and sports broadcasters in television history.

After watching the Board for a long time, I would guess they view Romo like they do Summerall at this stage. The combination of playing career and broadcasting has not persuaded the Board to induct Summerall into the Hall. Yet. In my opinion, Summerall desires to be in the Hall solely as a contributor in broadcasting. There have not been many who were as knowledgeable and presented the game to the viewing public as Summerall. Ever.

Romo is in that same boat now. Hopefully, he will have better luck with the Board than Summerall. Eventually.

add to this. His RoH induction in Dallas will help.

he needs to announce a few Super Bowls.

he’s well on his way to the Hall someday.

everyone knows who Tony Romo is.

This is an outrage

why won’t he stay at CBS for less? How can he turn his back on Jim Nance?!!

He’s asking to be the highest paid of all time but he’s nowhere near as elite as Al Michaels! Howard Cossel never asked for 13 million a year.

this joker has only been doing this for three years!

the nerve of this new breed of sportscaster

ESPN? Since they're the same company, next time the NFL negotiates with the networks over who gets what games, they need to move MNF back to ABC. And restore order in this universe! Added bonus of putting it back on real primetime and not cable.
