That's the rub. Do you want to use a top pick on a CB? Or pay Jones and use the pick some where else...which is a better option IMO.
Or you could also use that money you would’ve used on Byron and used that on a player who can start for you. And Byrons replacement doesn’t have to be your top pick.

I hope we can keep him.
Im not real excited right now about the alternatives.
Im still a fan of both Awuzie and Lewis...but Im not ready for that to be our starting duo.
I dont like Anthony Brown....I just don't see it.
not a fan of the veteran options...(Tramon Williams maybe...a McCarthy packer.)
and don't wanna start a rookie unless you know for sure he is Patrick Petersen.

veteran options if Jones can't be re-signed...
•Tremon Williams...played under McCarthy in Green Bay.
•PJ Williams...played for the Saints...Mike Nolan was a def asst there so they are familiar with each other.
•Eli Apple...another Saint that Nolan would be familiar with.

of the 3...I think I'd prefer T.Williams...but honestly...I'd rather have Byron Jones.

Jones has been our best CB the last two years and depending on which stats you look at, one of the better CBs in the NFL over that stretch. Yes, he seemingly can't catch a football. But I saw an Archer stat that said in 2019, 30 passes were completed against him in 60 targets. That 50% completion percentage would rank 9th amongst CBs.

But he's going to cost you some cash though, that's for sure. The flipside is Nolan seems big on turnover generation and that's really not Jones' forte.

I was largely against paying him that much but then I saw Awuzie get worse this year and that has me all confused now. I was banking on Awuzie improving and then we would either throw Lewis out there to replace Jones or draft a kid. But now, with Awuzie seemingly a lost cause, if you let Jones walk, you likely need two new CBs.

Decisions, decisions...........

First... BJones is our best DB.

2nd, Nolan is a terrible DC. I'm not going to bother posting a link to his stats. They stink.

3rd. I'm celebrating Marinelli s firing.

4th. Marinelli is a better DC than Nolan.

I believe re-signing Byron is an absolute must. He was the one consistent thing in our secondary last season. Now if you subtract him from the mix you’re looking at Awuzie and Lewis as your starting CBs in 2020.

Lewis played well last season, but is probably still better suited to play out of the slot than on the outside. Awuzie on the other hand took a huge step back last year and became a liability in the passing game. Awuzie needs to go.

No on your opinion on Chido. His stats are good.

Corners take longer to develop than Wideouts. I'd keep Byron, and let Coop walk. Gallup is promising, and there is loads of talent in thr draft.

That being said, it all depends on how the cards fall.

There’s no such thing as an elite CB with two career interceptions, with one being off a hail mary attempt and the other on a pop fly. I dont care how you try to slice it. If you think he’s good then say he’s good, aint nothing elite about him.

Now you're changing the subject. The statement you made was that "Byron isn't a lockdown corner", or at least hasn't been exposed yet. But any way you look at it, Byron's been a lockdown CB for two seasons now.

I'm letting him walk. Awuzie was not a lost cause. I believe everybody regressed . However as bad as secondary played, Lewis was the best. I'm drafting early
No lower then third round and let him and Lewis battle.

Calling a BJones haters...

he’s our best corner. he only gave up 34 catches.

One of the top in the NFL.

Well when you see awuzi is on the other side that’s not an accomplishment to write home about.

just because you stand out in a pile of **** don’t mean you need to be overpaid for it

I don’t hate Jones but if your looking at fat to trim I’d be trimming there instead of on offense
