Irvin was on 105.3 the fan this morning. He said he played in the Pro Bowl under the 49ers West coast offense. He said it was extremely difficult to understand, but Aikman was so cerebral, he was able to understand it and simplify it for Irvin.

Think about the QBs McCarthy had under this offense.... Montana, Steve Young, Favre, and Rogers. They all had high QB IQs.

I think Dak will be just fine.

Me neither. He needs to see a guy open to throw it. He anticipates nothing because I don't think he's capable of it.

I think this offense is a terrible fit for the QB. McCarthy's going to have to adjust.
He should know that coming in.

Its wordy. More terminology. QB calls all the routes.
Brett Favre might call East Right Slot U Counter Motion 322 Y Stick.

(In Earhardt-Perkins the plays are more like Red Right 324 Thunder/Smoke.)

If things work like expected Dak will be robotic. :muttley:

I have my concerns as well, over this. The WCO basically asks a QB to do all of the things that Dak is not exceptional with. Most of his strengths, in terms of throwing a football are not accentuated in this Offense, IMO. Honestly, I never gave McCarthy any real thought because I just didn't believe that Jerry would try and implement a WCO, because of Dak. It's just weird.

I don't think any of his limitations are mental. So he'll know and understand the offense just fine. Whether he will be accurate with the football and show anticipation are the bigger questions. That is a staple for West Coast QBs that have been worth talking about.

I don't know if Dak will be successful in a WCO, but one thing is for sure, he will have a lot more complicated system (aka REAL NFL Offense) to learn if he is going to be successful.

I believe Dak can do it, as everyone outside of him and Romo were unable to have any success under Garrett's simplistic systems. So that has got to mean a something, right?

I guess we will just have to wait and see.

It is my understanding that Dak is an intelligent guy. I will give him the benefit of the doubt.
I think he's certainly bright enough, but it's not just pure intellectual capacity, some of it is instincts and quick reads etc … I'm not saying Dak doesn't have those abilities, but we don't know to what degree he has them relative to what it takes in the West Coast offense. I'm anxious to find out.
