Our last two 1st rounders have busted, but overall I would agree with you that drafting has not been a problem during the Garrett era.

Like I have said a million times, I do not think talent is the reason we keep losing, I believe it was just very bad coaching from Garrett on down.

The fact that virtually the entire coaching staff has been fired kinda seems like Jerry and Steven agree with my assessment.

LVE a bust?

I’d say the fact that the coaching staff has been replaced is a function of Jerry letting McCarthy pick his own coaches.

What? We've been ignoring the safety position before Rod got here.

We haven't cared about the safety position since Roy Williams and we got lucky with Jay Ratliff.
I didnt mean safety, and Ratliff wasnt one of them anyway.

WILL has been a blessing..always under the radar. He and his scouts are the meat and potatoes of the team itself. I LOVE THE FACT MM TOLD HIM TO JUST FIND BALL PLAYERS. Its not complex...get good players, and take it from there.
I find this hard to believe. Personally I think other people outside Will make the calls on the premium picks. I think the "powers that be" be come disinterested in making decisions after round 3 and Will gets carte blanche at that point, the team has picked a lot of guys 4th round on that may not be on the team still but are still in the NFL. I just do not see Jerry and Stephen handing over power to MM, I could be wrong.

Tighter coordination gives you bust like Taco and Hill.

I would prefer the coaches to not be overruling the scouts in the draft room like Old man Rod was doing. Scouts wanted T.J. Watt and were overruled.

Should be able to do both. Coaches should give the parameters in what their scheme needs then shut up and let scouts do their thing.

Um, perhaps I am just getting old and my attention span is wavering, but I listened to this interview 3 times and I did NOT hear McClay say anything at all about McCarthy telling him to "just find him good football players". I did hear him say several times that he needs to find out what kind of players that the new coaching staff, McCarthy in particular, want to acquire.

That was my fault, I didn't realize the two tweets were from two different interviews. The interview I'm referring to is the one referenced in the second tweet with ESPN San Antonio. The interview can be found at https://www.espnsa.com/audio-vault/. I paraphrased it as I didn't remember word for word what he said but you can listen to the quote at -17:30 during the 4pm hour.

I listened to most of the interview and while a lot of it was pretty generic the biggest thing that stood out to me was his response to what kind of players McCarthy would be looking for. He said it was a "breath of fresh air" that McCarthy told him to just find him good football players and they would worry about putting them in position to succeed and scheming to success afterwords. Without directly saying it he basically confirmed the previous staff was too worried about finding players that fit their scheme rather than the other way around.
I wonder if some of the personell people are sore about Thornhill/Hill

I believe the FO wanted to take a Safety im the second and locked on Thornhill after some medical concerns over Rapp. Then Marinelli started pounding the table for Hill and they listened.

Imagine being a scout and working your tail off, putting in long hours watching film, interviewing players, going to pro days ect.

Then when you find a player you are very high on, at a position of need, who happens to actually slide ride into your draft spot, ONE OF THE COACHES who believes he's more knowledgeable decides to take a lesser graded player. All the while you know for a fact you put 10x more time and effort into your evaluation.

It would be hard not to be furious lol

Not trying to be a smart ***, genuinely asking: has this ever actually been substantiated by anyone. I keep hearing how Marinelli overruled everyone for Taco and Hill, but he couldn't even overrule Chris Richards in regards to the defense. I don't buy it.
