Not trying to be a smart ***, genuinely asking: has this ever actually been substantiated by anyone. I keep hearing how Marinelli overruled everyone for Taco and Hill, but he couldn't even overrule Chris Richards in regards to the defense. I don't buy it.
Legit.

Your question is legit.

It's just unusual to me that all we hear about from literally everyone is how Jerry is the final say no matter what and no one overrules him, but when these awful picks are made, it's always some assistant overruling everying. How fishy does that sound? What is more likely is Jerry asked Marinelli if he believed those players were good prospects and if they were that valuable (first and second rounders respectively) and Marinelli said yes. Honestly though, even that seems incredibly far fetched.

It's a unique situation in that War Room.

The rumor is legit or my question is legit? If the rumor is legit, could you please point me to where I can read or see this? I would honestly really love to see it. It would be cathartic.

I think it’s a fair question.

What we do know is that Maranelli’s opinion of Tristan Hill last year appears to have been a big factor in drafting the kid.

I don’t think it’s far-fetched to think TJ Watt’s perceived inability to play DE in Maranelli’s 43 was based off of Maranelli’s input.

Those things are obviously without question. The rumor I responded to, which is widely regarded as fact around here, is that Marinelli overruled someone/everyone on draft day. There is a distinct difference between giving opinions on players so that others can make informed decisions, and actually overruling people. The difference is a chasm you could sink the Mariana trench into.

Imagine being a scout and working your tail off, putting in long hours watching film, interviewing players, going to pro days ect.

Then when you find a player you are very high on, at a position of need, who happens to actually slide ride into your draft spot, ONE OF THE COACHES who believes he's more knowledgeable decides to take a lesser graded player. All the while you know for a fact you put 10x more time and effort into your evaluation.

It would be hard not to be furious lol

That happens every day in every industry. Scouts, like anyone else in a role where doing the legwork is the main job, understand that every recommendation won’t be acted on.

We’ve all had times where we scratched our heads and want to say “I told you so” but usually we just focus on what’s in front us us and move on to the next task.

Yeah absolutely. I am certain scouts will still be over ruled going forward. Same thing happens on every other team for the most part. Unanimous picks are probably fairly rare.

McClay said MMs directive was to find talent and let the coaches figure out how and where to play them. He said it was a breathe of fresh air. I assume he's had a more limited criteria in the past and was excited about the potential of opening up the draft board.

I personally grew tired of passing up DTs because they didn't have enough quick twitch.

My wife laughs so hard at that testosterone commercial with the huge baseball player.
She can be in another room, hear the first jingle, and she'll yell, "MEN! Think you suck?".

LOL!

Ah... I love PlutoTV.
"MAN BOOSTING FORMULA" lol
