Machota has a season review article up with some comments on what offseason moves could happen. FWIW, these were his comments -

He doesn't even mention Dak or Amari not being resigned, which I think its obvious.

TE - No real comment on Witten's future but says Jarwin will have a bigger role next year.

WR - interesting stat that Devin Smith had 5 catches for 113 yards and a TD in his first three games but then they made him inactive for the rest of the season to keep a ST player. That works out to 27 catches for 602 yards for a 4th WR, which is excellent.

DT - thinks that Maliek Collins could return and that Quinn gets a big contract whether here or elsewhere.

LB - no idea if Sean Lee returns or retires.

Safety - thinks our #1 pick is a Safety and Heath is likely gone.

CB - Thinks Byron Jones gets a big contract (here or elsewhere), Awuzie was better than fans thought and Anthony Brown is likely to be resigned.

The crazy thing about Devin Smith being inactive for a STs player. Is that the STs sucked and Devin Smith coming out of Ohio St was considered an elite gunner on STs yet he never even got looked at there.

At pick 17 if they go safety it has to be LSU S Grant Delpit.

Awuzie ran hot and cold. There were outstanding games he had and then way too many where he was the guy getting picked on all game long.

Witten might come back - or he might not.

Collins and Quinn might come back - unless they don't.

Lee could play or retire.

And Byron Jones will get a new contract - here or somewhere else.

That's what I love about Machota, so definitive! You just can't get inside information like this anywhere else!

:lmao:

awuzie gave up some big plays this year , I believe this change can be good for him, just hoping we keep Byron Jones he’s a lot better than people think, only allowed like 51% Passes thrown in his direction caught.

Start Jarwin.. He’s earned it. If we draft someone that is fine too but Jarwin is ready.

WR- Just try to bring back what we had. Dak is Cooper dependent.

DT - We need to get better there. Trysten Hill pick looks awful and it looked awful the day it was made.

LB - Hopefully Lee returns.. I’m worried about LVE

Safety - We obviously need to upgrade but it’s one of the least important position on the field so don’t force it.

CB - I hope we find a way to bring back Byron Jones but I think some team makes him the highest paid Corner in the league.

I went through every position, he wasn't claiming it was an offseason prediction because it was a review of the past season. I think the only real information is that the team is targeting a Safety at 17 and that they are likely targeting Anthony Brown and Maliek Collins to return.

Agree with all points there. I think people leading up to the draft will want to draft WRs but I think the guys already on the roster will do as much or more than a non-first round rookie would do.

Heath could be gone?

WHHHHHHHAAAAAAAAAAAAAAATTTTTTTTTTTTT?
Just means someone will pay him more for being a back-up/part time starter and special teams ace that the Cowboys are willing to pay.

That was the gist of Machota's writeup. If he takes a contract in the 6 - 10 range of CB salaries I think they have to bring him back but if its that much money they likely don't see the value and let him walk.

His mentions are the first I've heard of returns for Brown and Collins. That runs counter to what I have been hearing.

And my criticisms of him are not ones of you. I just found it funny that most of it came down to "may or may not return".
