I understand McClay does an overall good job but picks like Hill and Taco can't happen and someone needs held accountable.
Anyone will miss on players but really you should not be missing on 1st Rounders and high 2nd Rounders. These have to start
somewhere for you PERIOD
Considering his track record, McClay does a great job. Keep in mind that Taco and Hill were drafted at the end of their rounds while you ponder this:

Starting %'s by Position and Round

1st Round - OL (83%) LB (70%) TE (67%) DB (64%) QB (63%) WR (58%) RB (58%) DL (58%)
2nd Round - OL (70%) LB (55%) TE (50%) WR (49%) DB (46%) QB (27%) DL (26%) RB (25%)
3rd Round - OL (40%) TE (39%) LB (34%) DL (27%) WR (25%) DB (24%) QB (17%) RB (16%)
4th Round - DL (37%) TE (33%) OL (29%) LB (16%) WR(12%) DB (11%) RB (11%) QB (8%)
5th Round - TE (32%) DB (17%) WR (16%) OL (16%) DL (13%) RB (9%) LB (4%) QB (0%)
6th Round - TE (26%) OL (16%) DL (13%) WR (9%) DB (8%) RB (6%) LB (5%) QB (0%)
7th Round - DB (11%) OL (9%) QB (6%) WR (5%) DL (3%) LB (2%) RB (0%) TE (0%)

interesting in this week 01/17/20 Friday's version of Whispers from the Star per Jean Jacque Taylor- Jam Session:

- Kellen may have had too many "voices' in his ear during his 1st year as OC when things wasn't going as planned. Speculation that Garrett (passive-aggressive) may have been one of them.
while McCarthy likes K-Moore as an OC, he could keep Kellen on a short leach.

- There was never any considerations regarding Witten immediately being the new full time TE coach, maybe he needs to 'earn his stripe' first s as he moves up the ladder as an asst. coach
elsewhere. (quality control?) should coaching for McCarthy be anything serious. and it was peculiar seeing Witten do a lap run around Cowboys Stadium.
Was it a farewell lap ? and BTW last year was his lowest number of recs-yrds since rookie yr.

- Brad Nusseinmeher the new QB coach has a lot of coaching experience, he knew McCarthy, they thought he was a flat better pure coach than Kitna, he's been around as an offensive asst.as an OC
involved and worked with QBs, and had familiarity with Dak, Kellen, and the success of the offense may have played a part in Brad getting promoted to QB coach, which forced Kitna out the door.

- Trysten Hill - coming from two sources when asked if Hill showed anything at the end: one source says he did not do a G-Damn thang.- Knock on hill coming out was immature, don't always play hard,
and this source says Hill was same guy at the end as he was at the beginning .... while another source says he actually showed maturity and he kept coming back, he showed some swag,

- of all assist coaches let go, Columbo seem to be most upset. Kitna waited to hear what will happen, while Columbo asked McCarthy to meet with him. He was very disappointed that he was not
retained per outstanding OL performance in '19. and McCarthy could not even look him in the eyes during their meeting; questioned team loyalty. .
I do like Colombo but I don't blame McDouble for getting his own guy. It's actually nice to see Jerry not forcing Colombo on McDouble

To be fair to Mike, there was an entire cheese danish on the table that kept catching his eye.

Just shows how little DD we do on players. Its like our scouting department watches tape and looks at a stat sheet to make decisions. If the guy is lazy and difficult to coach, why would you draft him that high? This was a bad pick from day 1. We would draft better if we fired the scouting department and just went with the consensus internet opinion.

Just my opinion, but everything I have read and heard says that both Taco and Hill were Marinelli calls and not the scouting departments. They did their jobs and gave their board to the higher-ups and those people decide to go against that board and listen to an old coach that the game has passed by.

And here we are, and here he is not.

I have no problem with Columbo being up-set...anyone would.
and equally, I have no problem with Big Mc picking who he wants to coach his o-line.
the previous staff had their shot.....its somebody else's turn now.

Exactly.

For better or worse this way is the best.

Im willing to bet that a smart HC, that has full trust in KM, that he unleashes the full potential of this offense, not just dead stats, but actual playoff progressive stats.
I honestly feel that KM was hindered in his first year, and influenced in a way that handcuffed his true potential.
Lets hope that KMs mind, fully blossoms and he blows this offense off the charts under the new regime.

I think you are right. Did you noticed how he started the season and in some games the offensive play calling became predictable and not as aggressive. Carrot top might have had something to do with it.

Moving on from Colombo is probably the right choice. This team needs a reset and keeping too many familiar faces around can prevent that from fully happening.

If he's a good coach he'll get a new job soon enough. But honestly, none of us really know how good he is. The oline played well, yes. But look at the ridiculous amount of talent on it.

Another ex: Was Richard ever a great secondary coach or did he just have ridiculous talent to work with in Seattle? Hard to say.

We will probably never know, but hopefully we find out what KM really has to offer this season, what is KMs true potential.
He has an enormous cranium, and wicked set of big teeth,,, every person that I have ever encountered that also had those qualities, were either geniuses or unemployed.

Would somebody please tell Columbo to shut the hell up with this team loyalty crap.

Getting your job because of loyalty or who you are friends with went out the door with Clappy. Every coach failed in 2019, this was a 12-4 team that went 8-8 and was eliminated after losing to a rival’s practice squad.

Nobody deserves to stay after that, so Columbo can go cry me a river, the Country Club is officially closed.

Interesting how TE's lead the 5th & 6th round % but then go to dead last at 0% in the 7th.

Based on past leaked boards, we wouldn't have taken him in round 2 unless the scouts had at least a second round grade on him.
